Allergies in pets can be quite a severe problem. Allergies can lead to a number of different problems in pets- everything from yeast infections, skin conditions, irritable bowel to even possibly death.

The first step in trying to resolve an allergy is to identify the cause of the allergy. Many allergies are food related, so starting with diet modification may be the best first step in ensuring your pet doesn’t end up in a pet urn before its time. A protein elimination diet is usually the best method of identifying food allergies. You will want to start your dog on a novel protein- a source of food that he has never before tried. You’ll want to ensure that it doesn’t have ingredients that could be causing the allergy- like grains or other additives. Many people will purchase and prepare food for their dogs during this elimination diet, to ensure they have a source of food that is unlikely to contain any of the allergens that may be upsetting the dog.

Feed the dog this novel source of protein for several weeks, and monitor your dog’s health. If the dog does not exhibit allergies anymore, then you were most likely dealing with a food allergy, since the condition has stopped once you removed the source of the food allergen.

If the allergy problem does not exist when the dog is eating the novel protein, then you can slowly begin to introduce new food sources to your dog. Introduce food choices one at a time, monitoring your dog’s condition throughout this period. If and when the allergy returns, the last protein you fed your dog was likely the cause of that allergy. Once you have identified the source of the food allergy, you can return to a relatively normal diet for your dog, just ensuring that you avoid the particular cause of the food allergy.

A similar elimination process should be used for environmental allergens if the allergy persists once you change the source of your dog’s food.

Attempt to isolate the dog in an environment without potential allergens, and slowly reintroduce fabrics, materials, toys and other things that could be potentially causing the allergy. By controlling what your dog is exposed to, you should be able to identify the particular substance or substances that are causing the allergic reaction.

Suffering from food allergies suggests that your own body overreacts to a particular substances contained in a kind of food. The circumstance is also referred to as food hypersensitivity. Among the typical signs are the burning and itching around the mouth, vomiting, eczema, and asthma. Researches reveal that virtually 90% of the allergies are being caused by soy, milk, nuts, or eggs. There are two basic types of food allergy- hypersensitivity and food intolerance. Food intolerance is not as severe and is not technically the same as a full blown food allergy. Hypersensitivity from food allergy is an adverse reaction of the immune system and it is unrelated to any physical effect from the food.Food allergies will also present with abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting and many other related conditions. Wheezing and nasal congestion are other signs worth mentioning. All these signs may not be common in all people because individuals will suffer differently. Others may just have one sign and some have all the major signs of the food allergy.

There are various ways the ingredients that cause allergic reactions can sneak into the food we eat every day even if we try to avoid them. The following are some things you should take into consideration if you suffer a food allergy. For those who suffer peanut allergies, you already know how hard it can be to avoid peanuts or peanut oils. There are many times when peanuts are reflavored and passed off as a different type of nut. Be sure you always read product labels carefully.Food allergy problems are a type of adverse response to a certain type of food. Generally people develop over-reactive antibodies to certain allergens. Most people are allergic to at least one type of food, whether they happen to realize that during the course of their life or not. Someone may have a food allergy to shrimp but not realize it because they have never tried it. And sometimes people go through their lives experience discomfort as a result of consuming a specific food but not knowing what to blame.

Nowadays, there are several reading materials to help you understand the things you need to know about food allergy. One such example is the book called “5 Years without Food: The Food Allergy Survival Guide: How to Overcome Your Food Allergies and Recover Good Healthy.” The book discusses overview of food allergy as well as the foods which you can and cannot eat and its alternatives. For some time, you are restricted to consume foods containing eggs. These days, there are egg substitutes which you can use such as tapioca and starch from potatoes. Apple sauce can also be an alternative.

Seasonal allergies affect people during specific months, usually because of exposure to certain airborne allergens such as pollen. An allergic reaction to pollen, often diagnosed as hay fever or allergic rhinitis can irritate the membranes around the nose and the eyelids. In effect, people with allergic rhinitis will experience symptoms such as runny nose, nasal congestion, frequent sneezing, itchy eyes, nose, ears and throat, post-nasal drip, and generalized fatigue.

There may also be some wheezing and a chronic cough may develop. When the symptoms are too severe, it may develop into asthma. This can cause discomfort, and may even be fatal, especially to infants and young children.

Seasonal allergies affect about 20 percent of Americans and are considered one of the most common illnesses in the United States. They can affect you at anytime of the year, depending on where you live. They develop because the body is trying to increase its immunity against pollens, usually from trees such as maple, olive, juniper, birch and elm. Grass and pollinating weeds can also trigger allergic reactions. These are plants that depend on cross pollination through the air. Plants that are pollinated with the help of insects, such as dandelions, do not cause seasonal allergies.

Cure For Seasonal Allergies

To deal with seasonal allergies, you need to study pollen activity in your area. You can do this by signing up on online sites that give daily free readings. Avoid exposure to pollen whenever the pollen level is high.

The best cure for allergies is to avoid exposure to seasonal allergens, although this may be a little difficult when outdoors. It may be controlled by turning on air conditioners, closing windows and using air filters.

If exposure to pollens can not be avoided, wear protective gear such as eyeglasses, clothes covering your arms and legs and an air mask. Conjunctivitis may develop and can severely damage your eyes if it worsens into a condition called atopic keratoconunctivitis, which can lead to blindness. Symptoms include burning eyes, itchiness, mucous discharge from the eyes, a blurring vision and over sensitivity to sunlight. If you experience any of these symptoms, consult your doctor right away.

Most doctors would first conduct tests such as blood and skin tests to find out what exactly is causing the allergies. Allergens are injected into the skin, and if swelling or red spots occur, then the patient is allergic to these substances.

Patients who suffer from seasonal allergies can be quite restricted from doing their daily tasks in school or at the office. Medications and frequent doctor visits can take a toll on a family’s finances, that most people would go for allergy shots that may have more permanent results than over the counter medications.

Allergic rhinitis is often treated with anti-histamines, decongestants and nasal sprays. It is not right to do self-medication, however, because some medications may have severe side effects or contraindications for people who are taking medicines for other diseases. It is best to consult your doctor first before taking any over-the-counter medications for allergies.

Allergy Be Gone is a private company originally founded and currently funded by an allergy sufferer like yourself. Allen Barsano, our founder, has always been concerned in helping people who suffer from allergies. Not being born with any allergic symptoms, he never understood the struggle that people contend with in controlling allergic and asthmatic symptoms until he began to develop allergies in his twenties. After realizing the suffering and learning that there are ways to combat this illness he decided that it was time to help others heal in more homeopathic ways that just medication alone. Substances capable of provoking allergic reactions are called allergens. Allergies to airborne allergens – such as house dust mites, mold, pollen and pet dander – affect over 50 million people in America today. Although widespread, allergies are treatable and the symptoms are controllable. Depending upon your individual situation, your allergist will recommend one, two or all three of the following treatments:
Depending upon your individual situation, your allergist will recommend one, two or all three of the following treatments:
1. MEDICATION: Using pharmaceuticals in various forms to block the symptoms of allergy. Although this does not do anything to eliminate the specific allergy causing those symptoms, it is at times a necessary part of treatment, especially in asthma or severe nasal allergy.

2. ALLERGEN AVOIDANCE: Eliminating or decreasing your exposure to the substances to which you are allergic. The less of the allergy-causing material you breathe in, the more comfortable you will be, and the less medication you will require (can’t complain about that).
3. IMMUNOTHERAPY (ALLERGY INJECTIONS): Injecting the actual substances to which you are allergic, in order to produce a degree of tolerance to them. The allergist at first injects very minute amounts of the allergens, and then very slowly and gradually increases the dose over time, thereby decreasing your degree of sensitivity.

An effective approach to managing skin allergies has three components. Firstly you must understand the condition, then you must discover if anything is triggering your skin reaction, and thirdly you must look after your skin.

Many people think that allergies only affect the respiratory or digestive systems, but they can also affect your largest organ- your skin. As with other allergies the immune system overreacts to the presence of certain substances and releases inflammation-producing chemicals. Do some research and talk to your doctor. You can be confident of controlling your skin condition better if you are sure you understand what causes it.

The second component in managing a skin allergy is identifying then eliminating the allergens and irritants that start the itching/scratching cycle. There are over three thousand known triggers for skin allergies. Many are natural, but there are plenty of man-made ones too.

A common man-made trigger is latex, which comes from the sap of the Brazilian rubber tree. The natural proteins and those added in the manufacturing process can trigger an allergic reaction. Most people are aware that this can lead to reactions if you wear latex gloves. However latex is also present in baby pacifiers, balloons, pencil erasers and elastic bands in undergarments. There can also be problems when latex particles become airborne and are inhaled. If you have a latex allergy try to avoid the material and use vinyl or plastic where possible.

Nickel is another trigger. In addition to the obvious nickel-containing metallic objects like coins and jewelry, nickel is also present in everyday objects like scissors, bathroom and kitchen cabinet handles, and zippers. Mascara, eye shadow and eye pencils also contain nickel. Experts estimate that the number of people suffering from a nickel allergy has risen about 40% in the last decade. Much of this is believed to be due to the popularity of body piercing. Some foods also have natural nickel content and people who suffer severe symptoms may need to restrict their diet under medical supervision. At present there is no way to desensitize a person with a nickel allergy. Avoidance is the best strategy.

The third component of effective management is looking after your skin. The easiest thing to do is to keep your fingernails short to reduce the damage caused by scratching.

Managing your skin’s condition means firstly moisturizing and softening the skin to ensure it does not dry out. Your doctor may recommend you use topical corticosteroid preparations to control the inflammation.

When you take a bath soak in lukewarm water for 20 to 30 minutes. Do not have hot baths or showers, as the heat will increase skin dryness and itching. You can add oatmeal or baking soda to the bath for a soothing effect, though it does not help moisturize the skin.

Use a mild soap or a non-soap cleanser with neutral pH (pH7). If you wish to add bath oils do so after you have been in the water so that it can seal in the moisture. Do not use bubble baths as they can form a barrier that stops the bathwater moisturizing your skin.

After the bath dry yourself by patting your skin with a soft towel. This helps retain moisture. Immediately after drying your skin apply a lotion or emollient cream to help your skin retain the moisture.

To look after your skin you will also need to avoid situations where you will experience extreme physical contact, heavy perspiration, or heavy clothing. This may mean avoiding some sports. Swimming is permissible if you rinse the chlorine from your skin as soon as you leave the pool, and use a moisturizer after drying yourself.

Follow these three steps and you will be able to control your skin allergy and minimize its impact on your everyday life.

Our well-being and state of health is determined by our physiological ability to adapt to our environment, what the scientific community calls our “total stress load.”

The ever-growing list of pollutants of the air, water, and land add to a long list of naturally-occurring allergens which constantly bombard our senses, forcing our adaptive mechanisms to adjust. And while many of us are able to make these physiological adjustments with relative ease, for others the adaptive process effectively weakens them, pushing their total stress load beyond the healthy tolerance level. The result, for a growing number of people, are allergies. And with over 12 million artificial chemicals presently in use in the US alone, and an estimated 1000 new toxins being introduced into our environment every month, the incidence and rise of allergies and respiratory problems among both adults and children is nothing short of alarming. And these chemicals are not just isolated to the air we breath–which is cause enough for serious concern–they are finding their way into our water, drinks, drugs and medications, cosmetics, textiles, and of course, our food. The food we feed our children.

The commonly-accepted definition of an allergy is a sensitivity to a substance that doesn’t ordinarily bother most people. Many scientists believe this definition needs to be amended to reflect the many commonly-used chemicals, foods, inhalants, and other environmental factors which are affecting larger and larger sectors of the population–not just select groups. An allergic reaction can involve the individual’s immune system, but non-immunological responses are also possible. And when children begin to display symptoms of allergies, it’s quite often impossible to immediately distinguish them from those of a common cold, flu, or hay fever. Children often suffer for months or even years while parents attempt to discern the source of their kid’s misery.

Children are exposed to potentially harmful environmental conditions every day–and in many cases, no amount of adaptation will save them from suffering. In the home (in the foods they eat, exposure to cigarette toxins, pet hair, dander, and molds, unclean water, household cleaning products, gas from carpeting, fumes from paint–not to mention the rising use of harmful chemicals in the yard and garden), in the school (asbestos in many old buildings, contaminated air-conditioning systems, lead paint, commercial disinfectants, and a whole assortment of cosmetics and personal grooming products), and of course, in the outside world (carbon monoxide, methane gas, fumes from motor oil and gasoline, paint, pesticides, herbicides, and thousands of other commonly-used toxins)–children pay the price. A price that can be debilitating for some kids. Allergies can go far beyond just the runny nose or sneezing spells, they can affect their breathing, skin, bowels, and even their cognitive and reasoning skills (their ability to think clearly).

While food allergies had long been thought of as simply a pre-disposed inability to tolerate a particular food (strawberries, for instance), science is now recognizing that many children are not just responding to an inherent pre-disposed intolerance, many are developing an intolerance due to the amount of pollutants a food may carry. While common foods such as corn (including corn syrup, corn starch, corn oil), eggs, fish (and fish oil), milk (including cheese and butter), nuts (especially peanuts and peanut butter), and wheat (found in most baked goods and cereals), are at the top of the intolerance list, a number of other common foods are being added due to the environmental conditions these foods are typically subjected to–including tomatoes, shellfish, celery, soy, and a number of other foods ordinarily considered quite healthy. Thus, while statistically, foods are the most common source of allergies in kids, it can be quite an ordeal to figure out which one–or ones–is the culprit. An ordeal that can be performed by the parent only through a strict process of trial and error elimination.

Allergists suggest that when a parent suspects that a food is the source of their kid’s symptoms, they begin with the list of commonly in-tolerated foods and remove them from the child’s diet one at a time, eliminating each for a period of 12 days, while watching for obvious signs of improvement. No improvement, feel free to replace that food, then target another. It’s important to remember that should milk be the suspected culprit, a parent must eliminate all milk products to properly screen: not just the obvious sources such as whole milk and cheese, but also its inclusion in countless products you may not even suspect contain milk. (Read labels.)

When the elimination process fails (and may have to be extended to environmental conditions in and around the home, school, and beyond), a parent must then consider identifying the source of the problem through an allergy identifying test administered by your doctor, or in some areas of the country, at your local clinic. But be certain to ask if your doctor or clinic is certified by the American Association of Clinical Immunology and Allergy. Also, a parent would be well-advised to independently research allergies to be certain of all the options (but seek reputable sources like the Mayo Clinic or John Hopkins Hospital–not Wikipedia). You will also find that there are a large number of natural curatives and homeopathic remedies that have proven very effective in many cases.

Food allergy is an abnormal response to a food, which is triggered by the immune system. Food allergies can cause mild or severe discomfort and often enough, even lead to death. The most common food allergies involve:

Fish and shellfish, such as shrimp, lobster and crab

Milk and dairy products

Eggs

Nuts and peanuts

However, food allergies should not prevent you from going out and enjoying a tasty meal in a nice restaurant. If you follow certain tips, you have nothing to worry about.

1. Find where the food allergens may be hiding

Sometimes it is not easy spot food allergens, since they may be hidden in places you normally wouldn’t even think of. Let’s see how you can avoid food allergens, according to the food you are allergic to:

If you are allergic to milk and dairy products, hidden food allergens may be found in hot dogs, canned tuna, margarine made from corn oil, as well as chocolate chips, coconut cream flavoring and grilled steaks.

If you are allergic to eggs, hidden ingredients may be found in milky way or snickers bars, nougat, bagels, pretzels and pasta in prepared foods.

If you are allergic to nuts, you should avoid granola.

If you are allergic to fish and shellfish, you should avoid Caesar salad, foods with omega-3 fatty acids (like salmon), baby cereals and soy milk.

2. Ask to see the menu in advance

You can try to find the menu of the restaurant you want to visit online, so that you will know beforehand if you can safely eat over there or if you should look for something else instead. If you cannot find the menu online, you can call the restaurant and ask for the menu to be sent to you via email or via fax. If for some reason they refuse to send you the menu, you should take this as a negative sign.

3. Talk to the chef

Call the restaurant and ask to talk to the chef. Explain to him that you have a food allergy and ask for his professional opinion on what you can eat. Ask for alternative dishes as well as for special ways your food can be cooked so that your health will not be at risk. If it is possible, go to the restaurant and ask to speak to the chef in person. It is best if you go over there early in the week, at a time when he will not be that busy and will have more time to devote to you. Under no circumstances should you feel embarrassed talking to the chef. Your safety is what matters the most, so it is absolutely crucial to have all your questions answered before deciding to eat over there. If you notice that the chef is reluctant talking to you, refuses to answer all your questions, or is being vague, then you should not bother eating in that restaurant.

4. Allergy cards

It is important to have your allergy written down somehow to protect yourself in case something goes wrong. There are available printable allergy cards on line that you can get for free. You can also ask the chef to sign this card every time he delivers your order. if you travel to a foreign country you can have your allergy cards translated in the language spoken over there.

5. Bring your medications with you

It is better to be safe than sorry, so you should always carry your food allergy medications with you whenever you go out to eat.

Good luck!

More than 35 million Americans face the sneezing, wheezing, runny nose, and itchy, watery, red eyes that accompany seasonal allergies triggered when trees, grasses, flowers and other plants begin to release their pollens into the air.

These symptoms can range from moderately irritating to life threatening as the mucous lining of the respiratory system become irritated, then inflamed. Symptoms can escalate into sinus infections and asthma attacks. Even when not life threatening, symptoms can be temporarily debilitating.

Although there is no guaranteed natural prevention or cure, as with all chronic ailments, diet and exercise are the keys to keeping allergies in check and reducing the severity of symptoms.

Foods that help with chronic allergic conditions are foods rich in antioxidants
Beta Carotene helps keep mucous membranes healthy. Foods rich in beta carotene include apricots, asparagus, beef liver, broccoli, sweet potato, yellow corn, squash.

Vitamin C foods are recommended for their antihistamine effect. Broccoli, oranges, papaya, peppers (any kind or color) strawberries, sweet potato and tomato are all high in Vitamin C

Vitamin E is an antioxidant and helps boost the immune system. Foods high in Vitamin E are almonds, peanut butter, safflower oil, salmon sunflower seeds and walnuts.

Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids reduce inflammation and produce sinus health. They are found in cold water fish such as salmon, herring, sardines and anchovy. They are also found in olive oil

Bananas are said to have chemicals that relieve allergy symptoms (unless you’re allergic to bananas). Eat one banana a day.

Water cress is high in a multitude of vitamins. Eat it in salads, sandwiches etc.

An herbal remedy for allergies is usually one that has the ability to relieve congestion, loosen mucous, and sooth inflammation. Of course, don’t overlook the importance of the ones that strengthen your immune system.

Eucalyptus is strongly anti bacterial, antiseptic and stimulant with expectorant and antibiotic properties. It helps loosen chest congestion and quiets a cough.

Red Clover is used to ease allergy related asthma symptoms. It is a blood and lymph cleanser, and has antispasmodic and expectorant qualities.

Alfalfa is thought to relieve the symptoms of allergies and in addition is a great nutrient to help support the nervous system and help inflamed mucous membranes return to normal. Some people have reported allergic reactions to alfalfa, so if your symptoms worsen stop taking it.

Apple Cider Vinegar is effective in killing 89% of all known bacteria. It is rich in many vitamins and minerals. It reduces the amount of mucous produced and soothes sore throats.

Rose Hips are high in Vitamin C and help enhance the immune system and fight off illness.

Astragalus is highly antiviral and stimulates the immune system by increasing the presence of T-cells in the body. It not only helps ward off illness it increases the body’s ability to remove toxins.

Irish Moss is red algae that grows in the Atlantic coast of Europe and North America. It lessens the symptoms of cold and flu and when consumed in the winter is considered to prevent upper respiratory ailments of all kinds.

Stinging Nettle is a natural antihistamine. Studies show that taking about 300 milligrams daily of stinging nettle will offer relief for most people, although the effects may only last a few hours. Some herbalists suggest that taking nettle over a long period of time (two years or more) will eliminate allergies.

Mullein leaf is a great way to reduce the itchy, watery eyes and runny/ stuffy nose symptoms of allergies.

Nasal Saline Irrigations

Normal saline solution is an effective way to wash pollens out of your nose and sooth irritated mucous membranes.

You can use a bulb syringe, netti pot, nasal spray bottle or simply pour a little saline solution in your palm, close off one nostril and sniff the solution from your palm. Blow your nose and repeat with the other nostril. Repeat every 2 to 4 hours as needed.

Sterile saline solution can be purchased in single use doses, but it’s expensive. It’s less expensive and easy to make your own

1 cup warm distilled water
1/4 to ½ teaspoon sea salt (or table salt)
pinch of baking soda (optional)

Dissolve the salt (and baking soda if using) in the water and put it into a jar or bottle with a tight fitting lid. Bacteria can grow in this solution so if the solution isn’t all used up in 24 hours pour the remainder out, wash the container and make a fresh batch.

Other helpful hints

Reduce stress. Stress causes the body to produce cortisol which causes irritation and inflammation in the blood vessels and mucous membranes. To reduce stress, have a massage, or exercise, or drink a cup of chamomile or other nervine herb tea. Exercise not only builds the entire body and all it’s systems, it also reduces stress.
Exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
Eat a healthy diet.

Yes, there we are, right back to that healthy lifestyle again! Exercise and eating healthy foods benefits your entire body and, over a period of time you may see a reduction of allergy symptoms from that alone. Some people have reported their allergies completely disappeared with prolonged adherence to a healthier lifestyle.

Healthy eating doesn’t have to be yuck! Or bland. For some tips on healthy eating check out these sites
MUFA Diet
MUFA Recipes
More Healthy Recipes

Yes, I admit it, these sites are all weight loss diets, but if you’re at your optimum weight you’ll neither loose or gain weight, you’ll simply reap the benefits of eating healthier.

Depression is one possible symptom of allergies and food intolerances.

There are many types of depression, ranging from a somewhat negative outlook, through to full-blown major depression.

Because different people can experience an allergy to the same trigger in different ways, it is impossible to say that a specific type of depression characterizes an allergy symptom.

It is probably fair to say that allergies do not cause major depression, but may make it worse (this statement subject to change should new information become available).

Many people have described the depression associated with allergies with the following characteristics:
* Lethargy
* Low self-esteem
* Low motivation
* Difficulty getting out of bed in the morning
* Lack of pleasure in life

Coupled with insomnia, another typical allergy symptom, allergy-induced depression can look a lot like melancholic depression.

Allergic symptoms can shift, causing insomnia at night, and exhaustion and lethargy during the day leading sleeping too much during the day and inability to sleep at night.

This can also make allergy-induced depression look a lot like “atypical depression.”

Patients seeking help with depression are usually prescribed medication and possibly referred to psychiatric counseling.

This does not deal with the root cause of allergy-induced depression.

Watch out for depression that is mixed with other typical allergy symptoms. Often, certain symptoms can vary in intensity over time according to exposure to the allergen and other health-related factors.

In this case, suspect allergies, rather than an antidepressant medication deficiency.

If you suspect allergies, drag yourself to an allergist or doctor who practices environmental medicine.

You should still seek direct help with your depression because it may help while investigating allergy causes, and it may not be caused by allergies.

Investigate, as much as you are able, typical allergy triggers such as food, mold, dust, etc.

Common allergy-causing foods: wheat, gluten, corn, yeast.

Mold: do you live in a damp climate? Do you feel worse when humidity is high? Do you have mold growing in the shower, under the sink etc.? Do you have a damp basement or a leaky roof?

These allergy-sufferers often wonder if purifiers are good for airborne allergies. In most cases, they help in treating the symptoms of airborne allergies.

The task of the air purifiers is to remove contaminants from the air. They vary in design and sizes, although they are typically small. Most of them have been advanced in design and features but their efficiency mostly relies on their air filters which are responsible for trapping contaminants. The airborne particles are allergens freely moving throughout the air including pollen, dust, dirt, pet dander, dust mites, mildew, mold spores and tobacco. Individuals allergic to these particles may suffer from allergic attacks. The particles trapped by filters are then prevented from entering back to the room’s air. When these allergens are removed from the air, allergy-sufferers are relieved from their allergy symptoms and the relief is almost immediate for some people.

Air purifiers have been proven to remove airborne allergens, thus helping those who suffer from allergies to get some relief. It’s good to start purifying air in the room where people spend more time and that’s the bedroom. Most units are highly-portable so they can be carried around easily for transferring from room to room.

Larger particles or the ones heavier than air may not be filtered by the air purifier so they may be removed by a HEPA vacuum cleaner to prevent them from reentering the air. Quality purifiers have HEPA filters which are crucial for proper filtration of air in the room. Most air purifiers effectively filter the room’s air with HEPA filters which trap approximately 99.97% of air particles or contaminants even as small as 0.3 microns. With advancing technology, there are filters with 99.99% efficiency which can trap airborne particles as small as 0.1 microns.

Air purifiers are good for allergies caused by airborne allergens, and some individuals can have relief from the symptoms of allergies either gradually or quickly. They clean the room’s air from airborne particles without letting these contaminants reenter the air. Having a purifier at home costs much less in the long run than several visits to the doctor’s office for treatment and safer than taking prescription or over-the-counter anti-histamine medication drugs.

Your dog may be showing common dog allergy symptoms if he is scratching too much, or itching away at one spot on its body. Dog allergy symptoms are very common in dogs which are kept as family pets. Domesticated dogs have much weaker systems than do their wild counterparts. This is because centuries of breeding have bred out a lot of the natural defenses that would make a dog in human to allergic reactions. So your dog can pick up allergic reactions to food, it can also have allergic reactions to biological elements in the environment or chemical elements in the environment.

Unlike human beings, a dog cannot verbally express the fact that they are having a problem. You must watch out for the changes in behavior which will alert you that your pet is having dog allergy symptoms. The most common allergic reactions the dog will have are to the foods that you are feeding it.

So the only way to alleviate this is to change the type of food that your dog is consuming. This of course is only trial and error; you will have to try different brands of dog food until you find one that alleviates the problem. You should also never feed your dog from your own table. This is because you will not be a judge whether the dog is allergic to a certain brand of food if you are contaminating the results with food from your diet. If after several attempts at changing the brand of food the dog allergy symptoms persist you should take your dog down to your local veterinarian. The veterinarian will be able to establish whether there are other causes. For instance your dog may be getting allergic reactions to chemical or biological agents in its environment.

Milk is what you feed your infant; milk is what your infant is capable of digesting. If it isn’t mothers milk, it has to be a baby formula made out of cow’s milk. There is just no way to escape milk as food for the baby. But what do you do if your baby is allergic to milk -or more specifically, to the proteins in cows milk? Anyone involved with a food allergy, baby or adult, has it especially tough when it comes to milk. It affects 3% of all babies. Thankfully, they outgrow milk allergies.

What is a milk allergy anyway? It is a certain kind of food allergy baby might have when the immune system in the body mistakes the protein in cow’s milk (or the protein in goats milk or soy milk)for some kind of alien poison. A child with such an allergic attack can become really irritable and restless as its body tries to fight what it thinks is a poison.

So what do you do if this is the food allergy baby has? Certainly, you take your baby to the doctor for advice on what alternatives there might be. This kind of the tendency, they say, could be genetic – handed down through the genes. Thankfully, any child will outgrow this by the time they grow to be five years of age.

You need to be able to tell the difference between milk allergy and lactose intolerance though. The former is more serious. You’ll be able to tell what kind of food allergy baby has, by the time he reach six months of age. Sometimes it is rapid onset – the moment baby is fed something, there is a reaction. Sometimes, it could be slow onset, and may not show up for up to 10 days afterwards.

When your baby has slow onset, the child may gag, become colicky, have skin rashes, and they have been blood specked diarrhea (not as scary as it sounds though). With rapid onset though, it can be quite severe. The child can even stop breathing; but the more common symptoms would be bumps on the skin, hives, wheezing and throwing up.

Your pediatrician will probably ask you if you have a family history of this. And then there will be tests. A milk food allergy baby has may not be easily findable on any one test. It’s difficult, because all these symptoms are things a baby can get with other diseases too. The doctor will order an oral challenge test to know with certainty. With this test, you’re supposed to stop giving your baby any milk for a week, and then you restart milk as the doctor watches for a few hours. There could be blood tests, or an allergy skin test. The doctor will make a little pin prick on the child’s skin, and put a little spot of milk in there to test for a reaction.

It’s possible that at least for now, your child may not be allergic to breast milk. If you happen to have any dairy at all in your own diet, the proteins from that could get into your milk and cause problems for your baby. So you need to cut off all dairy yourself for now. And your doctor will tell you about alternatives there might be. And in such a food allergy baby is supposed to get hypoallergenic formula – that’s formula that has all the proteins broken down so that the body doesn’t see them as the protein that it believes it is supposed to fight. Make sure that you don’t bring home partially hydrolyzed formula – these are the cheaper variety of hypoallergenic formula, and can be dangerous. And if you hang in there, in most cases, these things go away by the time the child is one year old.

An allergic reaction can be triggered by various allergens such as pollen, animal hair, dust or feathers. Symptoms of an allergy can be anything from a runny nose, coughing and sneezing, stomach pain, to a skin rash or swollen lips or eyes.

Hay fever or Seasonal Rhinitis is one of the most common types of allergy. Symptoms usually start in the spring and can continue into August or September. Causes of Hay fever include grass pollen, tree pollen (especially birch), spores from fungi, mushrooms and moulds, weeds such as nettles or mugwort and wind-pollinated flowers.

The nose performs an important part in filtering foreign bodies and dust particles from the air we breathe before it gets into the lungs. It is estimated that 10 per cent of the population suffers from some form of allergy which occasionally impairs the functioning of the nose. This can be hay fever or an allergic reaction to dust, cosmetics, fur or smoke. When the nose comes into contact with the allergen, this causes an allergic reaction such as sneezing, watery eyes, sore throat or a runny nose.

Homeopathic remedies for hay fever include:

~ Allium Cepa 6 for frequent sneezing and nose discharge especially aggravated by the smell of flowers

~ Euphrasia 6 for red, swollen, itching or burning eyes.

Sufferers of hay fever might also find that certain foods make them feel worse. It has been found that the immune system of some people with hay fever responds not just to pollen but to certain fruits and vegetables, especially melons and bananas. If you are allergic to tree and grass pollens, eating apples, cherries, carrots or peaches could make your symptoms worse and it is worth watching out for this. Some people with hay fever are also sensitive to the pollen in honey and in this it’s worth noting that different kinds of honey contain different kinds of pollen. So try switching brands until you find a one that doesn’t make your hay fever symptoms worse.

Eczema can be aggravated, in the spring, if there is more contact with animals and also because of the warmer weather. Natural therapies that might help alleviate eczema include:

~ Birch which has been used for centuries for skin complaints. This can be diluted with a carrier oil and massaged into the skin or add a few drops to a warm bath.

~ Burdock Root helps relieve skin problems

~ Chamomile will help reduce the itchiness associated with eczema

~ Add a few drops of Cedarwood to a simple moisturising cream and massage into the skin.

~ Geranium can be added to a carrier oil or bath to help eczema. It is also deeply relaxing and will help relax you, ready for a good night’s sleep.

~ Marigold is also a good healer. Add a few drops to your bath for skin complaints.

~ Marshmallow Root is a protective cream that can help protect against skin infections

~ Myrrh is often used in aromatherapy for eczema and for chest and nasal infections. A few drops in a bath can also help relieve stress. It should always be well diluted and never be used during pregnancy.

~ Patchioli is another essential oil that should be diluted before application and is used for eczema and tiredness.

Within homeopathic medicine, eczema and other skin irritations are seen as an outward expression of a disorder on another level. Should the symptoms persist, it would therefore be recommended that you consult a homeopathic practitioner for deeper treatment.

Insect bites can cause an allergic reaction in the spring. Camphor has long been used as an insecticide (particularly in moth balls.) Add a few drops to a cotton ball or the hem of curtains or blinds for an excellent insect repellent. Marigold is excellent for insect bites but should be used in small doses as it does have an unpleasant smell!

Symptoms associated with allergies such as headaches, asthma, eczema and generally feeling low have all been found to be eased by using an ioniser. When positive ions prevail to a high degree, people can suffer more from allergic reactions. Inadequate ventilation, artificial fibres, smoke and electrical equipment can all affect a person’s well-being. If therefore you can’t throw your windows open to let fresh air into your home or workplace but you’re constantly suffering from headaches and cold-like symptoms, an ioniser could help alleviate these.

Herbal remedies can help relieve the symptoms of allergies during the spring but the ideal treatment for any allergy is to avoid the allergen. The environment is also important when determining how bad an allergy may become. A person is more likely to show symptoms of hayfever for instance if they live in the country than they would if they reside in the middle of a city!

The spring doesn’t have to be a totally miserable time for allergy sufferers and although it may not be possible to get rid of symptoms altogether, there are natural remedies you might want to experiment with to try to keep your allergies at bay.

Every year, millions of people worldwide are affected by allergies to particular foods. It is estimated that in America alone, over 11 million people suffer from potentially life threatening food allergies. It is estimated that over 200 people die each year from allergic reactions to food in the United States. Furthermore, there are approximately 30,000 emergency room visits each year that are attributed to food allergies. These numbers are astounding, to say the least.

There has been a lot of talk in the popular press as of late, regarding food allergies. In fact, the White House recently designated a National Anaphylaxis Day to raise public awareness about the dangers of certain types of food. Anaphylaxis is a term used to describe extreme allergic reactions that have the potential to cause death.

The most troubling element of food allergies is that they are next-to-impossible to diagnose. More often than not, an individual does not realize that they have a food allergy until they are having a reaction. At that time, it is too late to consider preventative measures. The scariest part is that there is literally no way to determine how serious the reaction might be, so the utmost care and consideration must be taken when dealing with an allergic reaction.

Some of the most common foods people are allergic to include nuts (peanuts, walnuts, etc.), shellfish (lobster, shrimp, crab, etc.), eggs, and dairy products (milk, cream, etc.). Now take a moment to consider how many prepared foods contain one or more of the above ingredients. For those suffering from intense food allergies, every meal is like playing a game of chance.

There are few ways to protect one self from having an allergic reaction. The best strategy is simply to be prepared for the worst. You certainly have to be aware of what you are eating, but also of the environment in which the food was prepared. In the case of an individual with peanut allergies, mere traces of the nut can cause like-threatening illness. If you are dining out, be sure to inform the restaurant of any allergies you suffer from. In the kitchen, extra care should always be taken to ensure cross-contamination is not taking place.

As mentioned above, there is no way to determine how severe an allergic reaction might be. The frontline tool for defense against allergic reactions to food is a compound known as epinephrine. Epinephrine is absolutely critical for managing allergic reactions, and could mean the difference between life and death. If you or somebody you know is suffering from food allergies, be sure to consult a physician regarding management strategies.

Many people suffer from pet allergies and feel that they cannot have a dog, but many, not all, find that they can bring a hypoallergenic dog into their homes without aggravating their allergies. A hypoallergenic dog produces far less allergy and asthma causing dander and saliva than other breeds.

Many factors go into how hypoallergenic a dog is. Everything from how much they shed. How much saliva and dander they produce. How high their protein expression levels are. The dog’s size and how much time they spend outside. How much they bark and how often they are bathed. How clean the house is and if air filters get used.

There is no 100% if a dog will cause or make allergies worse. Some people with allergies seem to do extremely well with hypoallergenic dogs, sadly others do not. To make the whole thing harder one might find several hypoallergenic breeds that they can not live with and then find one they can. It is highly recommended that allergy sufferers spend time with the breed they get interested in before buying the dog. It is important that people with pet allergies take them seriously, as they could develop into asthma.

Dogs that are minimal shedders and small dogs spread less allergens. Dogs that spend a lot of time outside bring in pollen and other outdoor allergens and spread them throughout the house, most people who suffer for pet allergies also suffer from environmental ones too. Dogs that bark a lot spread saliva. Dogs that have a bath regularly are the easiest to live with. Small dogs usually are bathed more than large dogs. Regular vacuuming and house keeping is a proven help and keeping the dog off the furniture and especially out of the bed is essential. An air filter can also be a help.

Allergy sufferers who would like to get a dog could try one of the following breeds. The mini, toy or standard Poodles, Bichon Frise, Havenese, Schnauzer, Kerry Blue Terrier, Maltese or the Soft Coated Wheaten. The Portuguese Water Dog, Airedale Terrier, Border Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Italian Greyhound, Basenji, Chinese Crested, Chihuahua, Mexican Hairless, West Highland White Terrier, Tibetan Terrier, Shih-Tzu, Yorkshire Terrier or the Doberman Pinscher. There are many other breeds that could have gone on the list, these were just a few suggestions. As before stated, one should spend time with the dog before they buy it, a breed that one person can tolerate does not mean the next can. Every dog produces allergens.

There are a few dogs that we know to be excessive shedders, allergy suffers should steer clear of them – Cocker Spaniels, Irish Setter, Afghan Hounds, Basset Hounds , Dachshunds and German Shepherds. It is a general rule the bigger the dog the bigger the allergens he produces.

There are many things that a latex allergy sufferer should avoid and some of these things are: balloons, latex gloves, certain medical syringes, elastic bands and latex condoms. master in health education

Certain foods, particularly fruits, contain latex which can set off reactions. Bananas, especially, are recommended to be avoided as well as pineapple, mango and kiwi fruit. Six percent of the United States population has a type of food allergy and as much as four percent of those have a latex allergy from the foods they are allergic to. It is estimated that over eight percent of the world’s population have an allergy to latex.

There are two types of latex allergies: Type 1 and Type IV.

Type 1 is the most severe and has the ability to threaten a person’s life. A person with Type 1 will have a reaction to latex straight away and can go into, what is called, anaphylactic shock. This is when the blood pressure drops to dangerous levels and can cause difficulty breathing and loss of consciousness.

Itching on or around the face, sneezing and runny nose are common symptoms when a person with Type 1 latex allergy has a reaction. health education curriculum

It is very important for Type 1 sufferers to stay away from latex material as much as they can throughout the course of their lives!

Type 1 sufferers can also experience severe reactions if they are in an environment that contains latex, such as being in a hospital ward that contains a box of latex gloves.

They also have to be vigilant that they do not touch a person or another item that has already made contact with latex.

It is important that a person, who does not suffer a latex allergy, washes their hands before making physical contact with a patient who does.

Type IV’s symptoms are usually delayed and the sufferer is usually quite sensitive to the chemicals used to make the latex gloves. Chemicals such as emulsifiers, antioxidants and fragrances all have the ability to cause a reaction and they will usually cause a skin reaction anywhere between twenty four and forty eight hours after contact has been made to the chemicals.

Symptoms such as skin rash will usually disappear on their own after a certain short period of time.

Type IV sufferers must take care not to come into contact with these chemicals often as they can also develop a Type 1 allergy.

Your doctor will ask you about your life history, and whether your occupation, if you have one, involves coming into contact with latex on a regular basis.

A few tests can be peformed to determine if one has a latex allergy.

One in particular is called a ‘skin prick’.

This is the process of injecting latex proteins into a wound caused by a puncture, or a scratch. This is normally performed on the back or arm of a patient. health education lessons

Normally, within approximately fifteen minutes, a small welt will appear as a result of the contact of the latex proteins, confirming the latex allergy.

Other tests such as the ‘skin patch’ actually use an item that consists of latex and this is applied to the patient’s skin. The reaction may or may not be immediate and will confirm whether the allergy is a Type 1 or Type IV.

Are you someone who happens to suffer from bouts with seasonal allergies every year? No matter how much you try to prevent allergies by keeping your windows closed, keeping your air purified, or taking allergy medications, there is one thing you must not neglect to do as part of your strategy to combat allergies: Your allergy prevention techniques need to be rounded out by using an allergy mattress cover to protect your bedding.

Yes, an allergy mattress cover can be an extremely effective tool to fend off allergies or at least to limit your exposure to those elements that can cause, trigger, or aggravate our allergies.

Allergens can infiltrate your mattress if it is left unprotected. Since we human beings will have spent, on average, about 30 percent of our lives lying down on our beds, it is important that we strive to keep your bedding free of any and all allergies.

An allergy mattress cover is made of a special type of dense material that is impermeable to microscopic allergens.

So it goes without saying that an allergy mattress cover would come in handy if you want to keep your bedding environment as sterile and allergy-free as possible. You will be able to breathe more freely and you will be able to sleep more peacefully.

What is great about an allergy mattress cover is that it is easy to clean it, which means that it is easy to purge it of an infestation of allergens, by simply washing it in the laundry. You can’t say the same about an unprotected mattress, which can be vulnerable to allergens penetrating the sheets and burrowing themselves in the mattress lining. In other words, if anything should get dirty, it should be the mattress cover, and not the mattress itself.

In fact, an allergy mattress cover not only helps to protect your health against allergens, but it can also help you save money in other ways over the course of the long term as well.

You’ll be able to reduce the cost of allergy medications and doctor visits that otherwise might have been attributed to sleeping on a bed that has become infested with allergens.

In addition, an allergy mattress cover also offers a number of other types of preventative benefits as well, aside from allergy prevention:

● An allergy mattress cover helps to keep your mattress dry against bedwetting problems, liquid spills, odors, and stains.

● An allergy mattress cover can provide additional cushioning for enhanced comfort during sleep.

● Using an allergy mattress cover can help to prolong and preserve your mattress’ useful life.

Which allergy mattress cover is right for you?

Seasonal allergies are allergic reactions which cause the inflammation of the lining of the nose. These allergies normally occur in certain season and the allergens involved are mostly from pollen of some weeds, trees or grass. Seasonal allergies are also known as hay fever. However, the term hay fever is not usually used as the allergy is not due to the cut hay but because of the living weeds, trees and grasses and the allergy does not result to fever.

Seasonal allergies are very likely to be experienced during spring when pollination is taking place. During this time, there is a lot of pollen in the air. Trees and grasses will pollinate hence releasing pollen grains in the air. The air might be full of pollen the whole of the spring season especially because trees and grasses pollinate at different times. Soon after some trees have finished the pollination process, some grasses will start and the air has no rest from pollen grains.

If you expose yourself to the pollen filled air, these are the symptoms that you are likely to observe.

The first symptom of this allergy is an itchy eye that is watery and red. This is the first indication that indeed the season of pollination has actually come. For some people, this is not the first symptom. You might experience a tickle at the throat or at the roof of the mouth. This tickle is irritating and causes a funny feel in the mouth that is not comfortable. These symptoms will then lead to a runny nose. Sneezing accompanies the runny nose. By this time, there is more pollen in the air.

The runny nose might lead to wheezing to some people and coughing too. The lungs feel congested and the coughing will lead to headaches.

Other than these symptoms, you might experience sleeplessness due to the change in the body status and if you sleep, it will be full of disturbances. Irritability levels are increased and dry coughs too are experienced. Some people have an impaired sense of smell or taste. The white of the eye and the inner eyelids might be inflamed in serious conditions. This is termed as allergic conjunctivitis.

In conclusion, there are remedies for these symptoms. There is no cure for the allergic reactions but there are medications that will ease the situation by ensuring that the symptoms are reduced and suppressed.

Many Amer?cans experience the discomfort and he?lth problem? der?ved from allergies caused by the coming of the spring sea?on. St?rt ?lanning to reduce suffering this allerg? season.

Although the a?lergy se?son in near, th? suffering doe? not have to be th?t bad. Certain measures c?n be taken. Mark Dyke?icz, M.D., professor of int?rnal medic?ne and ch?ef of alle?gy and clinical im?unology at the Saint Louis University S?hool of Medi?ine, gives the following
advise:

Tip t? Stop S?ring Allergies

1. Use over-the-counter antihistamines to stop spring allergies. If ?ou have suffered from allergies d?ring spring y?u may already know some ?ffective medicines. Older antihistamines, suc? as Benadryl, may cause sleepin?ss ?nd the impairment of thinking and d?iving. However, n?w medications, such a? Cla?itin or Zyrt?c work ?ery well wit? many allergy sufferers and do not ca?se drowsiness ?r slee?iness.

2. According t? Dykewicz, kee?ing doors and w?ndows closed ?an help prevent pollens and outdoo? molds from entering. Pollens and outdoor molds a?e the most freq?ent f?ctors th?t caus? seasonal allergies and peopl? should avoid them as much ?s possible. You c?n also u?e air f?lters systems. They may be expensive b?t they ma? wo?k ?ut very w?ll at filtering pollen and molds. Also, ?ou air conditioner (set it at roo? temperature if y?u want ?ummer ?ir in) ?an b? effective ?t p?eventing pollen and mold entering your hou?e.

3. It is s? nice to g? outside during summertim? but thi? is one ?f the things that may affect y?u ?f y?u suffer from seasonal allergies. Avo?d outdoor activity, particularly in the morning when pol?en ?ount is hig?er ?n the a?r. Also av?id those windy days since the winds wi?l bl?w trees an spread ?ollen all ?ver. Experts agree that between 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. g?ing o?t i? a definite no-no fo? allerg? suffer?rs.

4. W?en ?sing ?our car, ke?p the windows u?. Pollens, dust and m?ld ?ill ?e some how li?ited to enter your car if your w?ndows ?re ?losed. The rea?on for this tip i? the same. A?oid Poll?ns, dust and mo?d ?t all cost. These
ar? the most common factor that w?ll incre?se you? suffering from allergy.

5. Sinc? pol?en and molds c?llects on ?lothes and o?er th? s?in take ? shower and change clothes frequently to St?p Spring Alle?gies. This is especi?lly recommended if ?ou go out. S?ower and change clothes if y?u have spent som? time outdoors (although it s?ould be avoided s?ecially in t?e m?rning) if you want to stop spring allergies

The?e ?re ?f simple me?sures you ?an take stop spr?ng allergies and help relieve and prevent sympto?s and suffering f?om spr?ng seasonal allergies.

Allergies plague hundreds of thousands of individuals throughout the world. Lately the number of allergy sufferers has increased dramatically. A lot of individuals suggest that the number of allergy related cases is also escalating.

Luckily for the high number of individuals who suffer from allergies and the numerous related conditions…the number of productive therapy methods is also escalating. One of the more popular therapies for patients suffering from allergies is to be found in the realm of immunotherapy. It is the sublingual allergy serum.

The conventional allergy shot is still actively used by many. It is still a popular choice. But it isn’t as popular as it has been in years past due to the fact that the sublingual allergy serum is very effective and more affordable. Allergy sufferers are recognizing the advantages of this particular immunotherapy option.

It can be just as effective or more effective than conventional allergy treatments depending upon the case at hand.

The treatment provided by immunotherapy based sublingual allergy serum is administered by oral drops. Similar immunotherapy based treatment can also be administered by injection. The oral drop form is sometimes also called allergy drops or sublingual allergy drops. The oral drop form of this immunotherapy treatment is administered regularly under the tongue of the patient. The sublingual allergy serum is patient administered.

People who go through allergic medical conditions tend to go through simultaneous medical conditions (allergy related and non-allergy related). More medical conditions can increase the extreme nature of symptoms. Two common medical conditions that often pop up with allergy related medical conditions are: sinusitis or asthma. Asthma conditions can be pretty extreme. They can even lead to drastic medical costs as well as potentially serious medical complications.

Every person’s case of allergies presents differently. Although there are symptoms that are often a common indicator of the condition from case to case:

1. runny nose

2. morning throat clearing

3. swollen and/or puffy eyes

4. scratchy eyes

5. shortness of breath

6. post-nasal drip

7. quick, rapid breathing

Many common conditions that are allergy related can truly benefit from appropriate treatment. Successful treatments decrease allergy related symptoms for many patients. This is quite sad…considering that many allergy patients view their allergies as just another aspect of their daily life. They are resigned. They accept their symptoms as normal. They don’t even consider that appropriate treatment may very well alleviate their condition’s symptoms effectively.

Sublingual allergy serum, for instance, effectively targets the root of the problem instead of targeting individual symptoms like many treatments do. Due to the fact that it targets the root of the problem it can alleviate an extensive number of symptoms. And it often results in lasting relief rather than the immediate, but short term relief that is often offered to allergy sufferers through other treatments. It is non-invasive and natural so it can be used to treat even the most sensitive patients.

Allergies Type 1 is also called contact allergy. It is is when food, mold, animal dander, pollen, or dust can cause an immediate allergy attack. Whey your body responds to the invasion, your body releases histamine from the irritated area such as the skin, nasal and bronchial areas.

A person with Allergies Type 1 is burdened with an overprotective immune system and is forever on guard against everyday things that don’t bother the rest of us. It might be a cute puppy, a patch of green grass, to something as simple as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

The hypersensitivity allergic reaction to type 1 allergies can vary from mild irritation to sudden death from anaphylactic shock. Any sympton that causes swelling of the toungh or difficulity in breathing requires imeadate treatment by a physicial.

Mild cases of Allergies Type 1 can be treated with common products such as Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Pantothenic Acid, Glucosamine, Antioxidants, Allergy Aid, and Quercitin.

Hello, and thank you for reading this article!!!

For my first article, I decided to write about something I know alot about – allergies. If you have allergies then I hope this article is informative to you and, if you do not have allergies, then you should feel lucky, however, it is probably wise to read about allergies in case you ever need to help somebody who does have allergies.

So, you may be wondering, what do I know about allergies? Well I’ll tell you – I am seriously allergic to all forms of tree nuts, fish, basil and penicillin. As well as this, most animals and plants will make me sneeze too, which can be quite annoying.

But FEAR NOT! There are ways of combating allergies and surviving them that I hope to explain in this article. I hope to do this by listing the precautions that I take to make sure I am safe whilst eating.

1. Medication!

It is very important that whenever you are eating out, or you are eating something that you have never tried before, that you have your medication on your person. Some form of “anti-histamine” can stop most allergies such as hay fever and mild reactions. These work by stopping your body reacting so violently to things you ingest or take in. An example that I always use is Piriton Syrup, which comes in handy a lot. However, for stronger reactions, such as nut allergies, you should carry an EpiPen on you and you should learn how to use it. EpiPens should only be used if you are having a very severe reaction in which you feel like you could lose consciousness so be advised.

2. Make sure the food you eat is safe!

When eating out or buying food from a store, you should always be careful to check the packet for any ingredients you are allergic to. If you have a severe allergy to something, make sure that the food you are eating has not been cross contaminated with that particular allergen either. If you are still not sure whether the food you eat is safe, it is always best to phone the care line on the packet to make sure it is safe to eat. However, if in a restaurant this can get quite complicated. Firstly ask to make sure that the food you are eating is allergen-free. It is also wise to alert the staff that you have the allergy in case you do have an allergic reaction. Remember, better safe than sorry!

3. Other important rules!

It is always very wise that you have your medication updated when necessary as it could save your life. It is also wise to avoid getting drunk when you are outside the safety of your home. This is because alcohol can speed up reactions and, because you are in “less control” of your body, you could accidentally eat something you are allergic to – so drink aware.

If you follow all these rules, you should remain safe when eating food, as I have for the past few years. Of course, you never know if you have become allergic to something else until you eat it, so always be wary that ANY food could theoretically cause a reaction. However, as long as you know your allergies and know how to deal with them, you should be safe.

Thank you once more for reading my article and I hope it has been useful – please let me know what you think of my first article – it would be much appreciated!

We all know that most of us have an allergy to something. But finding out what the allergy really can be a discouraging job. Performing a food allergy blood test is something that you and your physician can do by eliminating foods from your diet and figuring out the symptoms of allergies.
However, there are 3 kinds of tests, it’s the skin prick, CAP-RAST and ELISA test. Each test has its own pros and cons. Some tests are good for kids or people with skin orders such as eczema. Some may take longer than the others, and some perhaps may not include the allergens you have gone through. These tests look for particular antibodies within the blood to spot an allergy. There are 2 types of antibodies; IgG and IgE. IgG antibodies get longer to respond, normally for about 48 hours. IgE antibodies typically react faster, in about two hours or less.

The skin-prick food allergy blood test is an easy type of test that is done at the physician’s office.

This form of test is normally less costly compared to CAP-RAST or ELISA tests. It also takes a smaller amount time to determine outcomes. The skin-prick test is done through applying a small drop of allergen to a particular extort on the skin, then pricking it using a needle. In case an individual is allergic to that particular allergen, a wheal (looks like a mosquito bite) will form in 15 minutes. For the CAP-RAST blood test, it needs a blood sample, which is sent to a laboratory where it is being tested to determine if the blood has IgE antibodies to that particular food allergy. CAP-RAST test is best for small kids that were having hard time with skin-prick test. This is also good for individuals, which are suffering from skin problems such as eczema that tends to make it more difficult to read the outcomes. It takes about a week to obtain the outcomes from this test.

The ELISA test is another type of food allergy blood test. This test contains more allergens compared to other tests, for about 190 various food allergies. It helps detect the amount of IgG antibodies. On the other hand, if you haven’t eaten a specific suspected allergen for the last three weeks, one downfall may produce a false negative. ELISA test sample is gathered and dealt with much like the CAP-RAST test.

The best test is indeed a lifesaver for people who continue suffering with strange allergy symptoms. Several people who have allergies never recognize that they could stay away from the symptoms through removing particular food from their diet. Nevertheless, one major problem to all food allergy blood tests is the fact that they cannot tell you the kind or severity of symptoms an individual will acquire. This indicates that two individuals could have each test positive for an allergy to peanuts. One individual may perhaps have the ability to eat peanuts, but includes a gentle reaction. Even though the other person would consume peanuts and go into anaphylaxis.
