Newton, MA (PRWEB) December 15, 2011

Facing Cancer Together and Thrive Together today announced that they have merged to better serve those affected by cancer in the Greater Boston area. The consolidated organization will operate as Facing Cancer Together under the Facing Cancer Together 501c2 nonprofit status.

I am pleased that Facing Cancer Together, with this merger, can serve even more people in the Greater Boston area, said Candy Hallett, Board President of Facing Cancer Together. Social support for people facing the trauma of cancer is critical and this merger positions Facing Cancer Together to more efficiently provide services to our clients so they can live the best quality of life possible while navigating the cancer experience.

Facing Cancer Together offers a range of support services including support groups, expressive arts programming, and mind-body wellness classes that help people with cancer and their family members manage the psychological, social and behavioral aspects of cancer that can affect their health care and outcomes. A 2008 report from the Institute of Medicine recommends the use of support groups during and after cancer treatment; additionally, research has shown the value of psychosocial support both during and after cancer treatment in reducing trauma, depression and anxiety and has suggested that support groups may even improve immune response and survival time after cancer. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are nearly 12 million people in the United States who have faced a cancer diagnosis.

We feel that this merger is the best way to serve our constituents, said Jennifer Rosenberg, Board President of Thrive Together. Given the challenging economic times, the similarities of our missions, and our long history of collaboration with the clinicians of Facing Cancer Together, our board unanimously approved this merger.

Facing Cancer together was founded in 2009 by a group of clinicians dedicated to providing support, education and wellness services to people with cancer. Thrive Together was founded in 2003 to serve pre-menopausal women with breast cancer. Programs have included support groups for cancer survivors, peer-to-peer mentoring, and information services.

London, UK (PRWEB UK) 16 December 2011

Elizabeth Mansfield, weight loss expert and qualified hypnotherapist has created a hypnosis track specifically aimed at helping menopausal and post menopausal women lose weight. It is based on her experience of working with women who are coping with their changing hormones as well as having become disillusioned with up to thirty years of failed dieting – and still being far from the size and shape they want to be. Her professionally recorded Shhh… (A ladys secret to lose weight) hypnosis can be purchased in MP3 and CD format from today from Amazon and iTunes.

After the age of 40 our basal metabolic rate (the rate at which we burn up calories) slows down. Many people have years of ingrained yo-yo dieting and/or bad eating habits and there is also a tendency to do less physical activity. Add the menopause to this cocktail and weight gain for women is frequently the norm. However, Elizabeth is confident that women can lose weight, relax and gain in confidence and self esteem all through listening regularly to her hypnosis.

As Elizabeth explains, As a society were surrounded, if not obsessed, by thin, glamorous and young women. And yet real life is not like this. Women of a certain age can sometimes feel like the best parts of life have been and gone, and that includes their once beautiful figures. Theyre also battling with long held eating patterns and the false belief that being on a permanent diet is the only solution. Thats simply not the case! Hypnosis is as powerful for weight loss as it can be for smoking. By tapping into the enormous power of peoples unconscious mind this hypnosis recording can genuinely help them make fundamental shifts in their thoughts, beliefs and behaviours. Weight loss will then happen naturally.

Notes to Editors

As a previous failed traditional dieter, Elizabeth Mansfield BSc Hons, MSc who is a qualified hypnotherapist and trainer of NLP created a unique weight loss system that worked for her.

Newport Beach, Calif. (PRWEB) December 17, 2011

Professional baseball player Casey Kotchman credits his amazing 2011 season to improved eyesight.

Aided by NVISION Laser Eye Centers ophthalmologist Dr. Tom Tooma and affiliate optometrist Dr. Gary M. Lovcik, Kotchman raised his batting average from .217 in 2010 to .306 in 2011. He also led the league in batting average against breaking ball pitches in 2011.

Kotchmans treatment included two unique methods, IPL therapy and RevitalVision, available at NVISION Laser Eye CentersDry Eye Clinic in Newport Beach, Calif.

We discovered a bacterial infection, says Dr. Tooma. We treated Casey with IPL therapy. This entailed four visits, one month apart, from October 2010 to January 2011.

Many people already know the amazing benefits of the IPL (Intense Pulsed Light Treatment Laser) to create beautiful skin, says Tooma. But this technological breakthrough has also been used to unplug the oil glands that line the upper and lower lid margins. The light serves as a healing, warm compress to liquefy any secretions that may be blocking the oil-secreting gland of the eye (called the Meibomian glands). Once the glands are unplugged, the oily layer of the tear film is restored. The oil helps keep tears in the eye, eliminating dry eye, bringing soothing relief, and in many cases, greater clarity of vision.

Elite players such as Casey are highly tuned into visual cues that help them identify ball speed, spin, and trajectory, says Dr. Lovcik, an Anaheim Hills-based optometrist. Through a pioneering brain training program called RevitalVision, we can now train and enhance an athletes vision to supernormal potential which allows the player to read these cues earlier in the ball flight path. This split second makes a tremendous difference in their game.

After undergoing these treatments, Kotchman was promoted from the minors by the Tampa Bay Rays. Just six months later, he was batting .361 in 131 at-bats. And he was hitting with two strikes, best among major leaguers with at least 50 two-strike at-bats.

Kotchman, who holds the Major League Baseball (MLB) record for most consecutive fielding chances without an error, currently is a free agent. I am excited about my future as a professional baseball player and am so glad NVISION Laser Eye Centers ophthalmologists and affiliated optometrists are on my team, concludes Kotchman.

Fortunately even weekend warriors can find relief from dry eye using the same methods that helped Kotchman gain his competitive edge. An estimated 22 million people suffer from dry eyes daily. Computer screens, dry climates, medications and even menopause are among the causes of dry eye. More information is available at http://nvisioncenters.com/laser-eye-procedures/dry-eye-treatments/.

About Casey Kotchman

To say that there are few better fielders in Major League Baseball than Casey Kotchman is anything but an exaggeration. Kotchman, currently a free agent, holds the MLB record for most consecutive fielding chances without an error. From July 20, 2008 until Aug. 21, 2010, Kotchman converted 2,379 chances besting the previous mark by more than 375. During that span, Kotchman also became only the third first baseman in MLB history to have a perfect fielding percentage for a season with at least 108 games. Over the course of his 727 games in the major leagues, Kotchmans fielding percentage stands at an impressive .998. His bat contributes additional value, as he showed off a career-high .306 batting average in 2011 with 153 hits and 48 RBIs. After ending his high school career as Baseball Americas top high school prospect of 2001 and the Gatorade National High School Player of the Year, Kotchman was selected by Los Angeles with the 13th overall pick of the 2001 MLB Draft and started the 2006 season for the Angels. He subsequently has played with the Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners before joining the Tampa Bay Rays for the 2011 season.

Great Falls, VA (PRWEB) December 20, 2011

Vaginal dryness, often a taboo topic, actually affects 50% of women in the US. Meanwhile, many traditional lubricant brands on the market are made with questionable ingredients that can actually do more harm than good. Dr. Darlene Gaynor, a Virginia-based urologist, saw many of her patients struggling for a resolution to this issue–that is when she developed Valera. Valera is the first lubricant to be USDA certified organic, with 97% organic ingredients.

Most women would agree that they dont want to expose to harmful elements and they want to feel confident about what they are putting on and in their bodies, commented Dr. Gaynor.

The ingredients in some of the popular brands on the market have been linked to causing yeast infections and other undesirable side affects. Valera is a safe option as it not only provides organic lubrication, but also moisturizes for ultimate comfort.

While commonly associated with menopause, women of all ages can experience vaginal dryness. Breast cancer is also known to lead to vaginal dryness and discomfort, as well as Sjogrens Syndrome. Ultimately it is caused by shifts in estrogen levels, so every day situations such as menstrual cycles, stress and breast feeding can also lead to dryness issues.

Whether experiencing vaginal dryness due to menopause, an illness or health issue, all women still want to have a pleasurable sex life–thats what I hope Valera brings to many woman looking to take care of sexual discomfort from dryness, commented Dr. Gaynor.

In addition to lubrication, it also helps build arousal, leaving women more than satisfied.

However, it important for users to realize Valera is not compatible with latex condoms, so it is encouraged for women who are in committed, monogamous relationships.

To learn more about Valera visit http://www.MyValera.com. For samples or to set up an interview with Dr. Darlene Gaynor, contact Leesa Raab, Leesa(at)Adinfinitumny(dot)com

About Valera:

Patent-pending Valera is the worlds first USDA Organic Certified natural female lubrication proven to improve moisture, vaginal dryness, vaginal comfort and sexual pleasure and arousal. Valera was developed by Dr. Darlene Gaynor, a Virginia-based urologist seeking a solution to the issue of vaginal dryness that many of her patients suffered from.

Morehead City, NC (PRWEB) December 21, 2011

BreakThrough Physical Therapy, a private physical therapy practice with locations across North Carolina, announces the recent addition to their staff, womens health expert Jolene Faught, PT, MPT. Jolene has more than eleven years of experience treating conditions that affect womens health such as incontinence, pelvic pain, pregnancy/post partum related pelvic floor and back problems, osteoporosis, post-mastectomy care, and fitness and wellness. During the past four years, Jolene has focused almost exclusively on pelvic rehabilitation, earning certification from the accredited Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehab Institute on the issues of incontinence and pelvic pain.

Since 2005, Jolene has had the opportunity to share her passion about choosing physical therapy as an option for pelvic floor treatment at various healthcare educational seminars. Her “What Every Woman Should Know” community lectures were extremely effective in sending a message to women who suffer from incontinence and pelvic pain that these conditions do not have to be permanent and physical therapy is an alternative to medications that could possibly cause side effects.

Over the years I have been amazed by the number of women who believe they should hide the condition of incontinence and learn to live with it, states Jolene. Id like every woman to know that physical therapists can help; we are the only medical professionals that take the spine, hip, abdomen, pelvic floor, dietary habits, lifestyle, and scars into account when developing tailored treatments for our patients. This customized approach to patient care yields incredible results; there is no need for anyone to live with leaking or daily pain.

According to the National Association for Continence (NAFC), incontinence is defined as the involuntary loss of bladder or bowel control. It is estimated that 75-80% of the 25 million adult Americans who suffer from incontinence are women. Pregnancy and childbirth, menopause, and the structure of the female urinary tract are the primary causes of incontinence for women. Studies also show that on average, women will wait 6.5 years from the first time they experience symptoms until they obtain diagnosis and treatment.

My bladder was controlling my life- my husband said it was controlling his as well! said a recent urinary incontinence patient treated by Jolene. After just seven visits, this particular patient’s daily urinary frequency was reduced by more than 60%. “There were so many things [that] I wasnt able to do and places I was unable to go. I was in a lot of pain [from bladder spasms]! I now have my life back!

Jolenes extensive educational training also allows her to develop physical therapy programs for men who were diagnosed with prostate cancer and suffer the side effect of incontinence due to radiation treatment or surgery.

BreakThrough physical therapists are different from other providers in the treatment of urinary incontinence because they use the latest scientific evidence and tools to get patients better, faster. This also allows patients to avoid the costly use of prescriptions and surgery. To learn more about BreakThroughs treatments for womens health issues please visit BreakThroughPTClinics.com

Marina Del Rey, CA (PRWEB) December 23, 2011

Women with overly large breasts, or macromastia, have an increased risk of breast cancer, says Dr. Grant Stevens, a renowned board-certified plastic surgeon and breast reduction surgeon at Marina Plastic Surgery Associates. The reason is not clear, he says, but it may be linked to obesity, where breast cancer rates are statistically higher, or a delayed diagnosis of breast cancer, which is more common in large-breasted women.

According to People magazine, comedian Wanda Sykes underwent breast cancer surgery in August after cancer was discovered as a result of her breast reduction surgery earlier this year.

During a September episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Sykes told DeGeneres that when breast tissue that had been removed during her surgery was routinely sent to the laboratory, ductal carcinoma in situ was detected.

“We have been carefully watching the literature over the years linking macromastia to breast cancer,” Dr. Stevens said. “In addition to the obvious problems big breasts bring, such as back strain, bra straps cutting into the shoulders and difficulty exercising, cancer is seen more often in women with large breasts. Ms. Sykes experience is a classic example of the difficulty in diagnosing cancer in large-breasted women.”

Dr. Stevens did not treat Ms. Sykes, but he has had experience with similar cases.

“In addition, we find that women with large breasts are also very self-conscious about them. We have done many breasts reductions, and the women are overwhelmingly thrilled with the freedom of a smaller breast size,” Dr. Stevens says.

The risk of breast cancer should be a reason for large-breasted women to consider reduction surgery, said Dr. Stevens, founder of Marina Plastic Surgery.

“There have been multiple studies to compare breast cancer rates after breast reduction surgery. Statistics do show a decrease in breast cancer incidence in the breast reduction group,” Dr. Stevens says. “Certainly, there are other risk factors for breast cancer, so we support an all-out assault on the disease by looking for all factors.”

Risk factors include:

Sweating is as natural as breathing, one sweats when does extraneous physical activity or is exposed to hot weather. It is the natural reaction of human body to exertion, fear, stress, heat. It also is a symptom of nausea, obesity, menopause, puberty and nervousness.

The sweat is a fluid that contains water, urea, sodium chloride, lactate and minerals. The sweat glands in human bodies are responsible for the production of the sweat. Approximately each human body has 5 million sweat glands that are distributed all over the human body and in the skin.

Sweat is produced when the body heats up and wants to cool down under high temperatures or strenuous work. It is also a means of excretion of wastes in the body. As it can be seen that the sweat is not only water but has some solute in it too. It is very normal to sweat so there is nothing to worry about if you sweat normally. However excessive sweating is something that is to worry about and it needs to be controlled. You can take following measures to help your body sweat in a normal way to save yourself from the discomfort and embarrassment excessive sweating causes:

There can be many causes to excessive sweating; one can be the products you are using. You can use an antiperspirant instead of a simple deodorant to make your glands stop sweating. Check the product carefully and see if it only a deodorant or an antiperspirant too.

The color of the clothing is also important when it comes to excessive sweating. Go for light colors and loose fitting clothes so that you have better circulation of air inside your clothes and the light colors do not make the sweat marks all too obvious if you can not help but sweat.

If you sweat extensively, avoid wearing artificial fibers as they restrict airflow by sticking to the skin. Cotton is best to provide you ventilation so it can be worn as an inner layer of clothing if you have to wear silks or artificial fibers like polyester etc.

Purchase an antiperspirant that has aluminum chloride in it. It helps with sweat control as it blocks sweat pores and restricts its flow. The rumors that it causes breast cancer are baseless so do not worry about them.

Excessive sweating is although an issue but with the above mentioned points you can easily prevent and control them.

When we start reaching forty we begin to wonder if those mood swings and fatigue are signs of the perils of menopause. There is a great deal of folklore about that often too dreaded word,”menopause”. Those who discuss menopause as the great’” change of life” many times indicate make up think we go to bed vital young women and wake up dried up spinsters. The one fact is for most women it is a long drawn out process that leaves them confused about when pre menopause becomes menopause and what symptoms they are experiencing are part of the process of entering this stage of life.

The amount of menopause symptoms will vary a great deal for women to women. Most women will experience hot flashes and night sweats. Most will not experience any really dramatic symptoms at all. Some of the effects are more of our own attitudes about our ageing reproduction system and not a result of the biological changes of menopause. That depression you experience; may be over your attitude and self confidence in your personal sex appeal It does not make the depression less real, just not really related to you physically ageing.

One common myth about menopause is that your post menopausal women are not as sharp in regard to memory as younger women. Some women do experience some memory loss during early menopause possibly related to hormone changes and the resulting depression. Most women find this situation temporary and their memory returns to normal after their body becomes more hormonally stable. Of course all of us become a little forgetful as we age. Serious and dramatic cognitive changes should be checked out by your doctor because you really can not pass them off as being a result of menopause and not a result of hormones.

Weight gain can be a real side effect of menopause. Dropping estrogen levels cause fat to be disturbed differently. Your internal fat burning engines slows as your metabolism slows down. Again, if the weight gain is dramatic and accompanied by dry skin or fatigue, you may need to have your thyroid checked. Women who use hormone replacement therapy many times experience less weight gain Still if you don’t do HRT that has its own inherent risks’; you can simply try to jump start your metabolism with a little more exercise.

Smoking can cause women to go into early menopause. Of course this is not true for all women smokers, but if you need another reason to quit here it is. If you quit before middle age you are less likely to go into early menopause. Early menopause puts women smokers at a greater risk for osteoporosis and heart disease. Smokers are at higher risks for these things on their own, anyway. Stopping smoking now will lower your overall risk for these conditions.

The age your grandmother or mother entered menopause can be a way to pinpoint of when you may go into menopause, but it is not full proof. Dietary and lifestyle changes in recent generations may change when you are going to enter the “change of life. ” There is a genetic connection, but when you start period is probably a better predictor rather you will enter menopause early or late. Women who start to menstruate young are more likely to take longer to enter menopause.

Lastly, some women believe their sex drive will lesson during menopause .Again, this probably is more an issue of self image than menopause. Many women have a greater sex drive during early menopause because of the increase testosterone to estrogen hormone levels. Some post menopausal women actually feel more sexually freed because of the loss of the fear of pregnancy.

There are many things you can do to make the menopausal process easier. Most of them are common sense like, right, rest, and get exercise. If mood swings become a big issue for you talk to your doctor. Wear light clothing to bed to make night sweats more bearable. You can try natural remedies or consider HRT if things become unbearable. HRT is a big decision because you may put yourself at risk for certain kinds of cancers that you would normally not be at great of risk for. You and your doctor are the best people to decide what is to be done when you feel menopause has taken control of your life.

Writing, as a form of therapy, is as old as ink itself. Universally understood as a transformative process, the simple act of putting pen to page can effectively jump start personal growth and healing.

Over the years I’ve had more than a handful of sessions on a therapist’s couch sorting through the baggage I’ve built, bought, borrowed and inherited in my 48 years. Without exception, each qualified practitioner proposed the following recommendation: start and keep a daily journal.

Seems much angst and worry can be worked through with pen and paper. Yet for reasons that can only be explained as part of ‘my personal charm,’ my journal keeping would start and lapse in record time. Nevertheless, I knew the writing process to be powerful despite my inability to be consistent. Once, after managing to hold my journaling nose to the grindstone for 13 weeks, I leapt tall buildings made of artist block and landed on the other side, with renewed energy and fabulous paid work.

And yet, despite my success, I quickly discontinued putting my thoughts on paper.

Miraculously, last spring, my lifelong writing inertia evaporated with the click of a computer button. As easy as one, two, three, I started my own on-line journal, more commonly known as a blog.

A blog is a web log comprised of a series of posts, about the author’s choice of subject, from professional to personal. Every entry is date and time stamped as they are published, giving the material the feel of a traditional diary.

Blog procedure is exceedingly simple and free for anyone with access to a computer. I type my thoughts, press the publish toggle and instantly my rants and raves go live on the World Wide Web. There is no middle person, web mistress, publisher or editor to be found. Blog control post, pace and frequency is in the blogger’s hands.

However, there is one distinct motivating difference between your traditional hard copy diary hidden away, under the bed, and your blog. Blogging offers a possible audience.

My first thought was to use a blog to share the unusual adventure of my Calendar Girl life and draw attention to the Breast of Canada project. It took no time to realize that a following of fans was a big buzz, injecting tremendous energy into the somewhat relentless process of making, marketing and moving 3000 calendars every year.

My second blog took on a digest format offering alternative breast related news that was a simple by-product of my role of publisher.

Blog number three was born thanks to a peri-menopausal fit of memory and hair loss. Fondly called ‘My Menopause Blog, How to Punctuate Life Without a Period,’ This effort truly fits the therapeutic writing model and contributes enormously to my state of mind.

Writing publicly about my petulant period, in real time, is like inviting a bunch of menopausal women over for tea and a heart-to-heart. Not surprising, scaling the dome of silence surrounding menopause, and talking above a whisper about ‘The Pause’ resonates deeply with women readers.

Shooting from the hip and funny bone, I share my findings of remedies, attitude shifts and my belief that menopause is not a disease. Thinking broadens with each entry; confidence grows as does understanding and a liberated sense of ageing. My Menopause Blog is like a cyber red tent for anyone interested in musing on maturity.

Eventually, curiosity lead to an on-line exploration of blog networks, blog rolls and search engines to see if other women were writing about their lives, health and well being.

Turns out, they are. Thousands of blogs are written by new moms, freshly divorced, empty nesters, the menopausal, survivors of cancer, stay at home parents, clinically depressed and chronically curious. Photos are up-loaded. Advice is sought. Human contact is collected by way of comments that reader’s leave like cyber hugs. There’s a whole lot of contact being made between people separated by geography, but connected by circumstance.

Clever blog names are common with blog owners. Ellie at This is My Body, This is My Blood offers a hilarious window into her peri-menopausal pity party. ‘I’m Out of Estrogen and It’s Not Pretty’ provides a window into Victoria’s menopausal life. A group blog that I randomly come across claims: “Running this blog is about 50,000 times cheaper than a good therapist.”

This new cyber kid on the block follows a blogger code of conduct that creates a safe, encouraging and friendly zone where you can let yourself hang out, be human and be heard. Not everyone writes like a professional, although there are excellent pro bloggers leading many a parade of readers. Countless circles of similarly focused, differently skilled people gather in and share the Blogosphere.

My greatest blogging benefit comes from my daily commitment to write just like the psychologists suggested. I clear my head, sort out my hormone-scattered feelings, get cheered on and remind myself that life is dynamic. Indeed, the cyber trail documentation of my menopausal mood swings is time stamped proof.

When you come to the conclusion that your hair density has changed, you start looking for reasons – anything that might be causing it.

There are many factors that can contribute to hair loss. One very common cause is low in iron. Iron is the mineral occurring in the greatest volume in the blood and its most important function in the human body is to assist in the production of both hemoglobin (the substance that carries oxygen within red blood cells) and myoglobin. Iron is also involved in the oxygenation of your body’s red blood cells. Iron deficiency sometimes triggers hair loss in large quantities but it can also be the cause of subtle, slow thinning over several months or even years.

It is understood that levels of iron play a significant role in various body functions, but it is also essential for sustaining normal growth and maintenance of hair. Low in Iron can possibly cause hair loss, is most common in pre-menopausal women between the ages of 35 and 50, when heavy menstruation contributes to iron loss. It should also be noted that iron-deficiency induced hair loss is not a condition exclusive to females. Males who by personal preference or religious reasons are vegetarian, habitually reveal depleted iron stores and/or low iron availability.

The simplest way to prevent iron-deficiency induced hair loss is to keep the balance of iron in the body adequate. Basically when the concentration of dietary iron absorbed by the body is inadequate, it results in negative iron imbalance.

Making sure that you get iron from natural sources is the best preventative measure to prevent iron-deficiency induced hair loss. Always make sure that you have a well rounded diet consisting of all essential nutrients and well as iron rich foods. There are plenty of great sources of natural iron in the food you eat. Be sure that you include several servings of a variety of the following foods in your diet everyday.

* Dried Fruit – especially figs, dried apricots, prunes, raisons, currants and dried peaches

* Leafy Green vegetables – such as dandelion greens, spinach, arugula, kale, mustard greens, Swiss chard and chicory.

* Beans and lentils

* Red meat

* Liver – both beef and chicken

* Oysters, Clams, Shrimp

* Chicken and turkey Fish – tuna, halibut

* Whole grains and brown rice Soybean flour

* Blackstrap Molasses Enriched cereals

Iron-deficiency induced hair loss is prevalent. However always bear in mind that not every hair loss is caused by iron–deficiency. If it turns out that you don’t actually have iron-deficiency, taking iron supplements could create an entirely new problem. In fact, it can be downright dangerous if you end up overloading your body with too much iron. So, to avoid the dangers caused by overdose of iron supplements you need to talk to your doctor and see if indeed you are suffering from iron deficiency induced hair loss.

Hair-loss can be divided into two categories: Hair-loss with skin shedding (also called “scaling”) and hair-loss without skin shedding. Hair-loss with skin shedding is likely related to a skin disorder.

Brittle bones and osteoporosis result from low bone density in older people, especially women in the menopausal stage as well as with people who are obese or have a sedentary lifestyle. Having low bone density can translate into weaker, brittle bones that easily break or as you age you begin to stoop because your bones don’t have the mass to support your frame especially if you are overweight.

Everyone as they grow older will eventually lose much of their bone density. But losing the mass of your bones can be slowed down. While still young, it is the best time to take preventive measures and a step towards keeping your bones healthy and strong all through out the days of your life.

Young children should have a diet with appropriate amount of calcium and perhaps even strontium (a mineral similar to calcium but more effective in building up of mineral bone density). Start in early childhood to take in food rich in both minerals for strong bones and consequently less prone to low bone density as they grow older.

Before the years catch up on you, make sure that you do have supplements to boost up your intake. Of course a healthy balanced diet and life style also contribute to prevention of osteoporosis. This means exercise, good sleeping habits and no smoking or drinking habits.

So if you think you are likely to develop osteoporosis, consult your family doctor for proper diagnosis and professional advice.

Though your family does not have a history of osteoporosis, being aware of what you can do now to prevent it is better than be confronted with it later when there is not much you can do once the disease is in advance stage.

And even if you are already graying you can still take supplements and train yourself to include whole grains, legumes, leafy and root vegetables, spices and seafood in your diet to help keep in check the loss of bone density. To slow down the aging process that affects your bone density you can also keep yourself agile and flexible by doing exercises that you enjoy doing.

Whatever your age, do what you can: as suggested eat fresh food that is not loaded with fat and empty calories and take supplements; do have proper sleep and rest and regular exercises. Stop any drinking or smoking habits, and take time to relax and de-stress. These will contribute to a healthier you and improve your bone density in the process.

Varicose veins are a nightmare for people especially women, 40% of pregnant women develop varicose veins due to hormonal changes that increased their hormone progesterone that causes the blood vessel to repose. Others acquire this by standing for a long time that stains the abdomen. There are scientific studies that having varicose veins are also inherited, having a wrong lifestyle and, women acquired this during menopausal stage. With all these, it shows that women are more prone to have varicose veins than men. What are varicose veins and how are they acquired? These are veins that are engorged and become aberrant. Varicose veins are usually visible on the legs but can also appear in any part of the human body. Amongst blood vessels, veins have valves that push blood to the heart, when it can not push the blood towards the heart it will cause the veins to enlarge. The swollen veins will then cause dissatisfaction and when touched or scratched it will lead to ulcer. This problem is not life threatening but it can look ugly so early action the best option when treating varicosities.

As the saying goes, there are many ways to kill a cat, and it is the same with treating varicose veins. Although there are many alternatives, it still depends on how the client wants to be treated. Other than undergoing surgical treatment, there are some home remedies that can help sooth varicose veins. You can use chestnut extract, grape seed, and butcher’s broom and have a reflexology to avert it for getting worse.

Other people are saying that you if you want to feel better after a long days work just raise your legs, but there are no scientific evidence and proof on this. Experts do advice their patients to use elastic stocking or compression stockings to make their feet and legs comfortable. However, if you can’t take the pain, none of those mentioned above will be of remedy, taking medicines is the next best option to manage the pain.

Meanwhile, nonsurgical varicose treatments would include sclerotherapy, endovenous thermal ablation, leg exercises and elevation as well as the use of elastic stockings. Sclerotherapy is the injection of sclerosants or medicine into the affected vein to shrink them. Endovenous thermal ablation, on the other hand, uses laser or radio-frequency waves to create heat necessary to shrink the vein. However, do keep in mind that these procedures are not without complications so it is best to seek professional help through vein centers.

As of today, there are still invasive procedures done to treat varicose veins and that is the saphenous stropping wherein a portion of the sapheneous main trunk is separated. If there are superficial or non-deep varicose veins, these can be cured through a process called vein ligation or ambulatory phlebotomy. Still these procedures, no matter how famous and widely done are still susceptible to problems unless done in trusted and safe vein centres.

Although varicose veins are not life-threatening, it can still cause hassle. Varicose vein treatment should be made by experts because these are invasive. Asking professional advice is important before engaging in any treatment to respectable vein centres. These are trusted because they only hire certified phlebotomist. At some point, physicians specialize in treating vein problems work at vein centres.

With their help, you would be able to seek medical help in dealing with your varicose veins. Moreover, you would know that when a procedure is going to be done at vein center, you would be in good hands for you know that they are someone who is fully knowledgeable in what they are doing.

Menopause is not an illness or disease; it is a normal phase of development that all women go through when their fertility and menstruation begin to decrease. But even though it is not an illness, it is advised that you seek treatment for your symptoms if they become severe or start in impact your daily life. Menopause can cause sleeplessness, anxiety, and depression and any one of these symptoms can have negative long term impacts. Unfortunately there are the still irritating but less treatable problems such as hot flashes and mood swings. If you are having trouble coping with menopause, especially in the case of anxiety or depression, please visit your doctor.

In the United States the average onset of menopause is between 45- 55. In other countries it may occur earlier. For women undergoing natural menopause, menopause is defined in medical terms as the day after your last period is over.

After one year of no periods, you are considered infertile and don’t have to worry about getting pregnant anymore. There are a lot of unknowns in menopause. Currently it’s unknown why some women get more severe symptoms than others and there are some racial differences with some races having fewer and less severe symptoms. Not so surprising is the fact that smokers typically will enter menopause a much earlier than non-smokers. One fact that is surprising is both fraternal and identical twins go into menopause much earlier than most women. About 5% of twins go into menopause before 40 years old.

Prior to menopause occurring there is a transitional phase that is called perimenopause. Again, severity of symptoms and the age at which it will begin varies. In most cases, perimenopause begins in the mid to late 40′s. Perimenopause symptoms are the same as the symptoms experienced during menopause. Basically perimenopause is simply the very start of the menopausal phase.

Some of the more common menopause and perimenopause symptoms are:

Irregular bleeding and periods
Vaginal dryness
Pain during intercourse
Loss of sex drive
Incontinence
Hot Flashes
Night sweats
Moodiness
Inability to get restful sleep
Anxiety
Exhaustion
Irregular heartbeat or heart palpitations
Weight gain
Muscle Soreness
Thinning hair
Stomach problems
Osteoporosis
Loss of skin elasticity
Memory loss

It’s unfortunate that not of lot of information is available about reliable treatment options for women in menopause. Until recently Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) was the standard treatment for menopause, but all this changed several years ago when studies showed that HRT caused an increase in certain types of cancers. Because of this information, women began going off of hormone therapy in droves.

Resveratrol is also effective in maintaining hormonal balance after menopause. Hormone Replacement Therapy is most commonly used in post-menopausal women to aid in the halted production of estrogen. However, HRT also makes for an increased risk in breast cancer, strokes, heart attacks and blood clots. Ongoing research demonstrates that resveratrol binds to human estrogen receptors. This increases hormonal activity in the body almost as effectively as HRT without the risks and side effects. It has been suggested that resveratrol supplementation may be a possible alternative to Hormone Replacement Therapy. Further researches might be able to uncover more benefits for women’s health.

In conclusion, women can benefit greatly from the intake of resveratrol. Aside from the medical implications, there are also cosmetic benefits in the form of resveratrol’s anti-aging and weight loss properties.

A faster metabolic rate in women also increases the efficacy of the immune system. Hormonal imbalance may be remedied by the steady intake of resveratrol as well. Though it is always best to take resveratrol while on a steady and regular diet and exercise. That being said, bear in mind that resveratrol is a supplement not a prescription medicine.

Resveratrol was found to help women in combating post-menopausal bone loss. Moreover, Resveratrol also prevents the growth of angiogenesis, the tumor-causing blood vessels. Because of this, it also helps in preventing breast cancer in at any age.

One thing to note though, that even if there are a lot of good things that Resveratrol brings to women’s health, Resveratrol is not advised when a woman is pregnant and lactating. First, of all, wine-drinking is discouraged for such women because alcohol consumption at any stage of a woman’s pregnancy is unsafe. Women, who wish to take Resveratrol, for supplementary reasons, may do so using pills and must consult with their doctors first before taking a particular brand at a particular dosage.

Those flashes , they happen right out of the blue. It makes you act like the Hulk and rip all your clothes off. Boy that’s a sight ! The best remedy for that is to wear your clothes in layers. You can add on your clothes when ever you change back to your normal self . Being over heated is one thing, cooling down is another. Your body feels as though it went through a drastic change, Which it just did.

Step 2

Try this one for size, You can purchase, cotton or silk when buying your under garments. They keep you cool and will not hold heat. Believe me, you don’t’ want to be hot and sweaty down there NO No No ! These fabrics breathe therefore, keeping you comfortable.

Step 3

You may also want to try herbal remedies, just be careful on what you take. There’s several books that can help you as well . The most important choice is to see your doctor. They can help the most. Not everything works for everyone.

Step 4

Here is a simple family remedy that works well. I have tried this myself. I am also going through menopause at this time in my life. First, you need a wash basin a small one will do. You add a gallon of cool distilled water than add a half cup of baking soda. Water can be room temperature. Mix well then add your wash rag to the solution leave beside your bed each night . When having a hot flash apply cool rag to face ,neck, arms and even your legs. You can also leave on your forehead when done. Drink a small glass of water lay down and relax You will start to feel the heat leave your body. Repeat this as many times as you like. You can use this for children when having a fever as well . ladies this really work. [

Vitamin K2 is very essential vitamin little kids because it give strength to their bones and sharp their minds. A new research found that the foods that are rich in vitamin K are also rich in other essential vitamins that are so important for human health.

According to recent research, the daily intake of vitamin K2 increase of 10 micrograms by nine percent and also reduced the risk of onset of atherosclerosis in postmenopausal women. Since atherosclerosis is a very serious illness, but taking vitamin K is a very positive step in preventing this disease.

Foods with higher levels of vitamin K1 and K2

Vitamin K1:

– Lettuce,

– Broccoli,

– Spinach,

– In a typical Western (Pakistan, India) diet composition is 90% of vitamin K intake.

Vitamin K2:

– In the flesh

– In fermented dairy products such as Cheeses.

– In beans

Mysterious effects of vitamins K1 and K2:

The recommended daily dose of vitamin K is 90-120 micrograms for men and women. With the exception of newborns that covers the need for varied diet. For women in menopause should also cover the increased need for supplements.

It is also important to note that it is not appropriate for that amount of vitamin K2 to obtain by more food intake; much more appropriate form is supplements or low fat fresh dairy products.

We normally associate acne with teenage and menopause, but the truth is that acne strikes everyone at least once in their lives. Acne is the result of your sebaceous glands producing excess sebum. Some amount of sebum is needed to keep our skin and hair hydrated but when there is too much of it, it can trap dead cells and debris, causing clogged pores.

These pores may form whiteheads or blackheads, called comedones. When these comedones get infected, they cause acne. These are zits filled with pus and often quite painful. Severe acne even leaves unsightly permanent scars on the skin.

This condition is found more commonly in teenagers because puberty is the time when a number of hormonal changes take place and this may stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce extra sebum, which in turn causes acne. Hormonal changes can take place even later in life and cause further flare ups.

Among other causes, stress is found to trigger acne as well as eating too much junk food, which is laden with oils and spices. External causes of acne are pollution and certain oils and preservatives found in many cosmetics.

A dermatologist will prescribe drugs that kill acne causing bacteria and stabilize hormones. You may see results as well as side effects of these medications. The sad part is that the acne will definitely return once you stop taking these medicines.

If you prefer the natural route, you might have to wait a little longer, but the results will definitely be permanent and without any side effects. There are some ground rules for taking care of acne prone skin and you must follow them religiously.

Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize

Cleansing, toning and moisturizing are a must for every kind of skin and even more so for acne-prone skin. Use a natural face cleanser which is mild and gentle, to remove dirt and grime without causing dryness. Dryness can trigger the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. Natural ingredients like camphor and geranium are known for soothing inflammations and controlling the oily sheen which is the characteristic of acne prone skin.

For toning, a natural toner which contains rosewater and glycerin will help tighten pores as well as restore moisture without clogging pores. Be very gentle to your skin to avoid worsening of its condition. Try spraying the toner on your face instead of rubbing with a cotton ball.

You might feel like skipping moisturizer because your skin is already oily but don’t do that mistake. A moisturizer with natural ingredients will hydrate your skin as well as soothe and contain inflammation. Turmeric, clove and eucalyptus all have antibacterial properties while geranium regulates oil production.

To notch up your skin care regime, try a clay based face mask regularly. This will help remove excess oils from the deepest layers of skin as well as provide nourishment with natural minerals in the clay. It will slough off the dead cells so that the pores are not clogged.

Apart from all this, eat healthy and try a detoxifying diet every once in a while. Practice patience to keep yourself calm and relaxed and stop worrying too much about your acne. If you follow the above mentioned tips properly, it will not be long before you will have a clear and zit free skin.

ELIMINATE MENOPAUSAL SYMPTOMS THROUGH MOTHER NATURE’S WAY
—————————————————
It is normal and common. The third type is “cold turkey” menopause which is the effect of having been taken off menopausal hormone therapy after you are diagnosed with breast cancer. The third stage is menopause where women have their last menstruation, permanent cessation of menstruation and fertility. It’s a normal part of the aging process, but its symptoms are abnormal. Hormonal changes in the body can result in menopausal symptom.

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF MENOPAUSE:
—————————————————
The more serious symptoms, as heavy bleeding during the period, high blood pressure, heart palpitation and depression, need medical diagnosis. Vaginal dryness, urinary problems and fatigue are due to lower level of estrogen.

These signs are common manifestation of hormone imbalance.

HOW TO CONQUER MENOPAUSE:
—————————————————
To reduce these symptoms, the following measures can be adopted:control and manage your diet – do not eat hot, spicy and acidic food, avoid hot drinks, caffeine and alcohol, do not use white sugar and saturated fat; reduced stress and strong emotions; stay away from warm weather condition and hot baths; reduce tobacco intake and intense exercises. It is never fun and annoying when you feel uncomfortable in any way.

You would know the impact menopause has on the emotions and how you can cope with mood swings. Be vigilant about your health. When your hormone level attains a given phase, determine how much alternative supplement is needed.

According to the research studying emotions of women, 8 to 10 are supersensitive.

However, simple remedies suggested are:taking Vitamins E and calcium supplement, eating soy products, drinking black cohash and Korean ginseng (both herbs) and acupuncture. You will know the four stages of menopause and how to detect which one you are in. Start to free yourself and endure the serenity of normal living Don’t waste time, act now If you think that enduring pains is not normal, then you are right. No hassles, no tricks. Try it now and you will not regret it ever.

There are on going studies and researches made on the advantages and efficacy of one over the other. Since it can take from 12-24 months for a book to go from research to the shelves, many medical facts and research are already out of date. Not only will it make your daily life easy, it would also help your lifestyle better. Supportive spouses, parents, children, relatives, friends and social environment can shorten or lengthen the way to success.

Andropause (or Male Menopause) is a multi-dimensional change of life with hormonal, physical, psychological, interpersonal, social, sexual, and spiritual aspects. Male Menopause occurs in all men, usually between the ages of 40 and 55, though it can occur as early as 35 or as late as 65. It represents the end of the first part of a mans life, and prepares him for the second half. Like adolescence it is the transitional phase between childhood and adulthood, Andropause is the passage between first adulthood and second adulthood.

The term male menopause is misleading. Men dont have menstrual periods and so they dont stop having them. Unlike women, men can continue to have children late into their lives. But in terms of other life changes, women and men experience have similar experiences.

The notion of Male Menopause is not new. Heller and Myers (1944) identified symptoms of what they labeled the male climacteric including loss of libido and potency, nervousness, depression, impaired memory, the inability to concentrate, fatigue, insomnia, hot flushes, and sweating. Heller and Myers observed that their subjects had below normal levels of testosterone and that symptoms improved dramatically when subjects were given replacement doses of testosterone.

The concept is more widely accepted in England, Australia, and Europe than in the United States. There are many who believe that since men can continue to reproduce into old age, they dont experience Male Menopause. Others feel that Male Menopause is real, but is synonymous with hypogonadism (low testosterone levels).

A ten-question survey was developed by Dr. John Morely (2000) that screens for Male Menopause. Survey questions such as:

1. Do you have a decrease in libido (sex drive)?

2.Do you experience fatigue?

3. Do you have a decrease in strength and/or endurance?

4. Have you lost height?

5. Do you feel as if you enjoy life less?

6. Are you sad and/or grumpy?

7. Are your erections less strong?

8. Have you noticed a recent deterioration in your ability to play sports?

9. Do you fall asleep right after dinner?

10. Is your work performance suffering?

If a man answers yes to any three questions and/or yes to questions 1 or 7, Dr. Morely believes that there is an indication that he is going through Male Menopause and may need to have testosterone levels checked.

A significant problems for men going through Male Menopause is depression, yet it is greatly under-diagnosed. Failure to diagnose depression can prove to be deadly. The rate of suicide for men forty-five to sixty-four is three times higher than the rate for women of the same age. The rate for men over sixty-five is seven times higher.

Ive identified several intervention strategies that have been effective. Some of these include:

Hormone replacement therapy,

Stress reduction, exercise, dietary changes,

Chinese medicine, herbal treatments, acupuncture,

spiritual support, and career refocusing,

Chemical dependency treatment, sexual compulsivity treatment,

Treatment for depression.

Finding and engaging ones calling in the second half of life.

For the last 40 plus years Ive been dedicated to helping men and the women who love them. Ive written a book on Male Menopause which provides an extensive analysis and solutions. For more information go to http://SurvivingMaleMenopause.com

Menopause or change of life when the cessation of the menstrual cycle . The average age this takes place is between 45 and 55.

The end of follicle growth and ovulation bringing childbearing years to an end. The follicles in the ovaries stop producing ova (eggs) and less estrogen is produced. This decrease in estrogen signals the body to begin this series of events. Sex drive is not affected by menopause but sexual desire may decrease. This may be because sexual intercourse is more difficult and painful due to dryness.

Gradual changes that take years with pronounced physiological changes begin. Some are:

Hot flashes

Chills

Nausea

Dizziness

Headache

Rheumatic pains in joints

Night sweats

Fatigue

Vaginal dryness

Dry Skin

Dry and brittle hair

Sometimes physiological changes such as:

Abnormal fears

Reduced sexual desire

Nervousness

Depression

Excessive irritability

Poor memory

Poor concentration

Anxiety

Loss of interest in sex

Being prone to worry

Symptoms occur with varying severity and frequency. Hot flashes may last for up to five years. Dryness occurs when vaginal skin thins and secretions diminish. The vagina shrinks, loses elasticity and becomes prone to infections. The neck of the bladder and urethra go through similar changes resulting in urethral syndrome (the need to empty bladder frequently).

Are you a man in your 30s or older? At that age, a man should stop taking virility for granted and begin to plan for an eventual decline in testosterone. He will need to be aware that with the decline in the male hormone causes symptoms that will make him feel less vital. It’s possible to take action to minimize such symptoms and preserve or restore vigor.

The first step should be learning what symptoms he might encounter. When testosterone wanes, a man may feel tired, depressed, or irritable. Physical symptoms include thinning hair, loss of muscle mass, weight gain, difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection, and loss of libido. Fortunately, after decades of studying and helping women with menopausal symptoms, American medicine is now turning to men’s symptoms and how they might be alleviated. One recently developed formula is a supplement called Amidren. Amidren is described by its manufacturer as a male hormone modulating formula. Basically, Amidren addresses the deficit in testosterone while balancing other key compounds in the male bloodstream. The result is improved vitality, a boost in metabolism and, consequently, improved mental outlook.

So say you’ve decided you are experiencing some of the symptoms of male menopause, and you’ve visited a physician or other health care professional to rule out a more serious physical condition. Your next step is to find a provider of Amidren, and get started restoring your former levels of vim. Like so many products these days, Amidren is available online. What a wonderful time to be a consumer! There are so many advantages to shopping online. Remember those nosy cashiers at your corner pharmacy? You don’t have to come face to face with them anymore. It’s convenient and easy to place an order online. It’s not more expensive. In fact, since you’re saving gas, it’s probably cheaper. But how do you locate the best purveyor of the product you’re interested in, in this case Amidren?

First of all, spend a little time with your search engine doing some research. There are many providers of Amidren, and the prices they offer vary from under for sixty tablets to over . Some distributors will offer a discount for large orders. Others offer free shipping as an incentive. Price is one factor you will want to research.

Perhaps more important than price is reliability. You can allay any fears you may have and deal with firmly established, well known retailers like Drugstore.com or Amazon.com. These companies want to protect their reputation, and will work with you to address any problems you may have with your order.

If you deal with an online distributor that you’ve never heard of, the first thing to do is make sure the website lists a street address and phone numbers, both local and toll-free. A reputable online drugstore will have pharmacists that you can consult with by phone for free. Steer clear of organizations that only allow customer contact by email, or that only list a P.O. Box for an address.

Do not deal with companies that send unsolicited email to your inbox. Anytime you give out personal financial information on the internet, it should be an exchange that you initiated.

Congratulations on taking control of your current and future health! With a little research, you should be able to find the Amidren distributor that fits your needs.

The Most Powerful Plant from Bolivia and Peru on Sexual Health – The Magic of Maca

Despite having been used for thousands of years, not many people are aware of the traditional benefits of maca, or Lepidium meyenii. Maca thrives at extremely high altitudes, more than 4,000 meters above sea level, and is native to the Andean mountain ranges of Bolivia and Peru.

The people of these countries acknowledge maca by names such as maino and ayak chichira, but to the rest of the world, it is more popularly referred to as Peruvian ginseng. Here are some of the advantages of maca, the most powerful plant from Bolivia and Peru.

Improvement in sperm production and motility

Herbal and alternative therapies are slowly garnering attention throughout the world, and this may point to the gradually increasing fame of maca. One of the more popular uses is as an aphrodisiac. Call it the South American version of Ginseng, if you will, but a number of scientific studies have shown the positive effects of maca on sexual health.

One such study at Peru focused on the effects of orally administered maca on semen parameters in men. Nine men were given maca tablets for four months. At the end of the trial, there was an improvement in both sperm production and motility, despite there being no change in serum hormone levels.

Increase sexual desire

Another study was carried out to determine if maca has an effect on male sexual desire. Over a period of 12 weeks, men between the ages of 21 and 56 were given one of two different doses of maca or placebo. Analysis of the study results indicated that maca increased sexual desire without altering serum testosterone or oestradiol levels.

Women can also benefit maca, in a study conducted at Victoria University in Australia, 14 post – menopausal women were given maca extracts for six weeks, followed by placebo for six weeks, or vice versa. Early findings indicate that maca has the ability to alleviate certain symptoms experienced by post – menopausal women such as depression and anxiety. It may even reduce sexual dysfunction among this group of women with oestrogen and androgen.

The above studies highlight just two of the possible uses of maca.

High content of vitamins, amino acids and carbohydrates

In Peru, it is consumed as a food item due to its high content of vitamins B1, B2, B12, C and E, as well as amino acids and carbohydrate. Traditional uses of maca are varied. Women in Peru have employed it to improve fertility as well as to alleviate menstrual irregularities. It has also been used as a tonic as it is thought to strengthen overall physical functions, increase mental clarity and improve memory.

Conclusion

However, these uses are traditional and scientific proof of these benefits has yet to be established. These are the magic of maca, the most powerful plant from Bolivia and Peru on sexual health.

Endometrial cancer is a cancer of the womb, which is also referred to as a uterine cancer. The uterus is located in the pelvic area and is shaped similar to that of a papaya or a pear. 90% of all uterine cancers are endometrial cancers, and are the third most common amongst women.

The cancer occurs in the cells of the inner lining of the uterus which is called the endometrium. As this lining grows, cancer is formed. Medical professionals do not know the cause of endometrium cancer, but the majority of evidences point to having been exposed to high levels of estrogen.

Endometrial cancer mainly affects women who have gone through menopause, especially those who are 55 years of age, or older.

Some of the risk factors include obesity, a high intake of animal proteins and fats, diabetics, women who have had breast or ovarian cancer, women who have been treated with tamoxifen, women who have never had children, have irregular menstrual cycles, and have high blood pressure.

The good thing about endometrial cancers is that it is highly treatable. Most women are able to detect the symptoms at an early enough stage for treatments to be effective and cure the cancer.

Some of the signs and symptoms associated with Endometrial cancer are:

Bleeding or spotting, beginning at 12 months after menopause. This is usually the first sign and it may not always be the result of cancer, but nevertheless, it should be checked out by a medical professional.

Bleeding in between periods in pre-menopausal women. This also may not be a sign of cancer, but still should be checked out just to be on the safe side.

Any unusual vaginal discharge which is not related to the menstrual cycle may also be a sign of cancer.

Unusual long, heavy or frequent vaginal bleedings after the age of 40.

A thin white, or clear vaginal discharge after menopause.

Bleeding after intercourse.

Pain during intercourse.

Trouble urinating.

Lower abdominal pain.

Pelvic pain might also be a symptom, although this rarely occurs.

Weight loss, loss of appetite, and fatigue are also symptoms which should not be ignored.

If you are at risk for developing endometrial cancer and you are experiencing any of the above symptoms you need to have it checked out by a medical professional. A biopsy will be done to determine whether cancer is present or not. If cancer is present, or suspected, a sample of the endometrium will be removed for further testing.

Almost every woman has at one time or another felt so fatigued she wanted to cry. But for some women and for a variety of reasons including menopause caring for a newborn working odd hours chronic anxiety and poverty to name only a few fatigue is a constant not an occasional problem.

Stimulants dont really give us more energy though they are what many women turn to when they feel too tired. Stimulants create false energy leaving us more exhausted at deeper levels. One more cup of coffee one more soft drink one more jolt of fear increases energy to be sure. But these choices also deplete our bones of their minerals weaken our core energy and prevent truly restful restorative sleep. Even herbal stimulants like cayenne and guarana are well stimulants. They push us too hard and erode our longterm health.

Are there ways to boost energy that are effective and healthy? My guide Grandmother Growth gave me some ideas of how to help myself when I feel bonetired. And I gathered together the best remedies I know plus the wisdom of my Wise Woman friends so you can help yourself too when you are too weary for words.

I Fall into my arms and sleep offers Grandmother Growth. You dont have to make things happen; they will happen on their own. Let me hold you. Let go. Dont resist. Rest. You are working hard. You are delving deep and changing yourself. Of course you are tired. Change is hard work. Rest in my strong arms. Let go. Give your weariness to me. Let go of all that worries you. Surrender yourself into my strength. Take courage from me. Let me support you. Let me ease you. Let go.I

Extreme fatigue indicates a profound need to do nothing. Ask family and friends to give you a day totally off and take it! Barricade yourself in your room if need be or like the cartoon character Sylvia in the bathroom.

The internal processes that occur during puberty motherhood menopause or any other profound change in your life require tremendous amounts of energy. Even if you provide yourself with very high quality nutrients and use your energy wisely you may still feel unreasonably tired. Many cultures offer newborns and moms a quiet alone month or more allow menopausal women to retire for a year or more while they Change and give grieving parentspartnerschildrenfriends time off from responsibility. If yours doesnt if you cant at least be gentle with yourself.

Give yourself a break: every hour take a 60second break. Breathe deeply; stand up and stretch; drink a glass of water or some herbal infusion. Schedule a regular time to meditate or take a nap every day. Small frequent rests help more than an extra hour of sleep; but do both if you can.

Set aside an hour a week to do something indulgent for yourself: a long soak in a hot bath a manicure a walk alone in a beautiful place. Nourish yourself and you will have more energy to give to others.

Treat yourself to a massage once a month. It need not break your budget; find someone willing to barter for a skill or product you have. A skilful massage releases tension helping you get more benefit from your sleep and downtime thus liberating more energy and helping you begin the upward spiral into increased vitality.

Lower your standards. This advice though difficult to hear has been one of the most important guidelines for me in choosing a life that delights and energizes me. It helped me choose to let the floor go unswept the dishes unwashed the bed unmade while I gardened or studied or even just went for a walk in the woods. When I do the things I want to do I have LOTS more energy. What are you doing that saps your strength and erodes your delight in life? Find a way to quit or at least cut down on the time you devote to it.

Ive found laziness to be my best guide to efficiency; lethargy has stopped me from taking foolish risks; and procrastination helps me find more efficient ways to proceed. Love and honor your fatigue for helping you conserve energy and giving you the time to find creative new ways to do the same old things.

Seaweeds of all kinds help restore energy by nourishing nervous immune and hormonal systems. Make it a habit to eat seaweed as a green vegetable at least once a week. Try kelp in your oatmeal wakame in your beans kombu in your soups hijiki salads toasted dulse sea palm fronds and deepfried nori!

Counter that tiredeveryday feeling: get down and get grounded energy from roots. Try a tincture of ginseng siberian ginseng yellow dock or dandelion roots. A dose is 1020 drops of any one root taken with meals.

You may need more iron: eat a spoonful of molasses or try a dropperful of yellow dock tincture several times a day.

Energy is attracted to energy. Get moving this way: stand up feet shoulderwidth knees relaxed. Swing your arms toward one side then the other. Let the shoulders and hips move as you twist your upper body. Let your arms move freely. Continue for a minute or two. Then start rocking your tail bone your whole pelvis forward and back forward and back again for at least a minute. Alright!

The plants with the deepest green give you the most energy. A daily cup of nettle infusion increases energy without wiring your nerves. Nettle strengthens the adrenals allowing you to tolerate more stress with less harm. And it nourishes your immune system too.

Leftovers may be used as a hair rinse or fertilizer for your houseplants. I drink several quarts of nettle infusion every week. It helps me have the energy to teach all day and write for hours each evening.

Oatstraw infusion builds deep energy for the next day especially when you have been riding an emotional roller coaster. Oatstraw nourishes the nerves easing anxiety and improving our ability to live with uncertainty. Make it like the nettle infusion using a full ounce of oatstraw to a quart of boiling water. OK to drink it hot or cold with honey or miso or any other addition juice coffee whiskey you desire. Remember to refrigerate the infusion after it has brewed 48 hours even if you dont get a chance to strain the plant material out.

When youre too tired to eat you get more tired. If this sounds like an old wives tale remember that old wives were the wise women. But actually its the latest scientific thinking. In addition to at least one really good meal a day eat high quality snacks hourly.

Though it seems contrary St. Joans wort tincture relaxes the nerves yet increases energy. A dose is 2530 drops several times a day including before bed. Youll sleep better ache less and wake up with more energy and a brighter outlook on life.

Warming herbs such as ginger and cinnamon increase energy but may increase hot flashes too. Make a tea with 1 cup250 ml boiling water and 121 teaspoon 12 grams of the powder of any one of these.

Very tired women need more fuel that is more fat in their diets and best if the fats are also natural sources of vitamin E: avocados peanut butter sunflower seeds tahini and olive oil are good food sources. Herbs rich in vitamin E include nettle seaweeds dandelion and watercress.
B vitamins build energy. Find them in whole grains organ meats sweet potatoes avocados egg yolks fish and whey. Both oatstraw and nettle infusions are good sources of B vitamins as are red clover blossom infusion peppermint leaves and fenugreek seeds.

Low levels of potassium iron and iodine contribute to fatigue. Celery cabbage seaweeds nettle infusion and red clover infusion are excellent sources of potassium. Molasses chocolate seaweeds nettle infusion and dandelion leaves are all superb sources of iron. For iodine seaweed shines but sea salt mushrooms and greens grown in gardens fertilized with seaweed also supply significant amounts.

Some women report greater fatigue on days when theyve eaten frozen or raw food. Traditional Chinese Medicine says eating raw or chilled foods especially cold drinks and raw juices contributes to fatigue because you have to use your internal energy to warm up the food before you can digest it. The more tired you are the greater your need for wellcooked foods like nourishing herbal infusions and healing soups.

I avoid wheat grass juice green barley powder spirulina and all blue green algae. None are as nourishing as nettle infusion and all are considerably more expensive more difficult to make yourself at home and more likely to be sold through multilevel marketing.
